"she needs a beating," Larry said coldly, teeth gritted. His eyes stared at Chloe like daggers.
The word landed like a blade.
The machine kept beeping. One. Two.
No one breathed. Deena's fingers locked on Beatrice chair so hard her knuckles went white. She didn't look at Larry. She looked at Chloe.
She wanted to see what really dissapointed Larry to suggest that kind of an answer.
Cassen ignored him. He didn't need to be told to know what Larry found out from Chloe's memories. He does understands her from the lifetimes they did live together on what was happening on her mind.
He turned to Deena behind Beatrice for a half a minute then to Beatrice for answers.
Beatrice sighed. "She burned herself out."
Just one answer and he understood it.
Cassen nodded and moved slowly toward Chloe's bed. His thumb brushed the hair that had turned half red aside.
