"Another boring day."
Takashi Komuro stood near the railing of the school rooftop, watching the white clouds drift lazily across the blue sky. He sighed listlessly.
Everyone else's high school life seemed vibrant and colorful, but his had become utterly dull and suffocating.
His childhood sweetheart, Rei Miyamoto, had just officially confirmed her relationship with his best friend, Hisashi Igou. The two of them had essentially teamed up to break his heart.
Actually, he couldn't even call it cheating. He and Rei had never even kissed; their so-called "boyfriend-girlfriend" promise was just a childish joke from middle school. Therefore, facing Rei and Hisashi standing together like a pair of perfect lovebirds, he didn't even have the right to utter a single word of rebuke.
Besides, in that situation, anything he said would just sound like the pathetic lament of a defeated dog. It was better to say nothing at all and maintain a basic level of dignity.
Tap, tap, tap.
Just as Takashi was staring over the edge of the rooftop, half-seriously considering whether a jump would cure his depression, he heard a series of light, disciplined footsteps approaching.
"Busujima-senpai!"
Seeing the person stepping onto the rooftop, Takashi quickly straightened up and greeted her respectfully.
It was Saeko Busujima. She was not only the Captain of the Kendo Club at Fujimi Academy, but also a prominent figure in the Student Council, and the reigning champion of the All-Japan High School Kendo Tournament.
Not to mention, she was breathtakingly beautiful and possessed a figure that made uniforms look like a suggestion. There wasn't a single boy in the entire academy who didn't know who she was.
Of course, the main reason for her fame was her terrifying reputation. Any boy who dared to act on his inappropriate thoughts toward her inevitably ended up beaten black and blue in the school infirmary. Through word of mouth, every male student had learned to fear and respect her from a distance.
"What are you doing standing so close to the edge? Planning to jump?" Saeko asked, her voice cold and even, as she glanced at Takashi.
"Ah... Senpai, you're joking. How could I—" Takashi laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. Who greets someone with a suicide joke the moment they meet?
"Given the fact that your childhood sweetheart just started dating your best friend, the statistical probability of you jumping is at least seventy percent," the purple-haired upperclassman stated calmly, her face devoid of pity.
Takashi winced. As the saying goes: Good news never leaves the gate, but bad news travels a thousand miles. He had thought no one knew about his humiliating situation, but in reality, the gossip had already infected the entire school.
Japanese high school students were generally precocious and bored. Who was dating whom wasn't big news, but a messy love triangle involving childhood friends? That kind of explosive drama spread through the classrooms within hours.
"Ugh... even you know about this, Busujima-senpai?" Takashi scratched his head in utter frustration. He had come up here wanting some peace and quiet, but it turned out he was the center of attention.
"If you're not planning on jumping, step away from the ledge," Saeko ordered directly, ignoring his exaggerated expression of despair.
She didn't know exactly why her father had instructed her to spend her free time wandering near the rooftop observatory today. But since it was Masao Busujima's absolute command, Saeko followed it without question.
"I'll step back right away... wait, what is that?"
Just as Takashi was about to step away from the railing, movement at the front gates caught his eye. He squinted down at the school entrance.
"What is it?" Saeko stepped up to the railing beside him, her sharp eyes immediately locking onto the disturbance.
A disheveled man was leaning heavily against the barred iron gate. A P.E. teacher had marched out to pull the trespasser away. The teacher reached through the bars, grabbed the man's collar, and pulled.
Suddenly, the trespasser lunged forward and sank his teeth directly into the teacher's arm.
"Ahhhh—!"
Even from the rooftop, the teacher's agonizing scream was audible. Blood sprayed across the pavement. Within moments, the bitten teacher collapsed, only to rise again with unnatural, jerky movements.
Then, the gates gave way.
Hundreds of strange, shambling, corpse-like figures began pouring into the academy grounds, swarming the fleeing students. Blood began to paint the courtyard red.
"This is... this is..."
Takashi stared blankly at the army of the undead below. Even though he was the "original protagonist" of this anime world, such a sudden, horrific turn of events was enough to short-circuit his brain. Panic seized his throat.
"Busujima-senpai, what is happening?!"
He spun around to ask the reliable senior for guidance, only to realize he was talking to thin air.
The purple-haired girl was already gone.
The moment she saw the corpses biting the living, Saeko remembered her father's words. Three days ago, when the news reported a "new virus" in Africa, Adrian had subtly planted a seed.
He had claimed that upon breaking through to the Sword Saint realm, his intense meditation had granted him brief, terrifying glimpses of a ruined future. Given the rich history of Japanese martial arts myths—where masters could cut steel with air and sense killing intent miles away—a Sword Saint receiving a prophetic vision wasn't entirely far-fetched to her.
She had been skeptical at first. The idea that modern human civilization would be destroyed by walking corpses seemed like the plot of a cheap movie.
But now, watching the bloodbath unfold below...
'Father... did you truly receive divine revelation?'
Without a second thought, Saeko drew her wooden katana, kicked open the rooftop access door, and sprinted down the stairs, heading straight for the infirmary to secure the target her father had specified: Shizuka Marikawa.
Meanwhile, miles away from the screaming chaos of Fujimi Academy, a tense silence hung over the grand hall of the Busujima Dojo.
"The reason I invited you here today is to discuss Kotonoha's future development," Adrian said smoothly. He sat cross-legged in his high-backed chair, looking down at the guests kneeling on the tatami mats before him.
That morning, Adrian had utilized the Busujima family's elite political connections. He had learned through internal channels that the Japanese Cabinet was secretly preparing for an emergency relocation. That singular piece of intel told him everything he needed to know: the apocalypse virus had officially broken containment in Japan.
Of course, the corrupt politicians and zaibatsu executives frantically packing their bags had no idea what they were truly running from. They thought it was a severe riot or a bio-terror attack.
Adrian didn't care about the geopolitics. He found it amusing how easily the governments of this world allowed a manageable crisis to spiral into an extinction-level event. But preventing the apocalypse wasn't his mission, so why worry about it? Trying to find logic in the plot of an adult anime was a fool's errand.
Instead of worrying about saving the world, he was focused on securing his assets.
He didn't need to worry about Saeko. Not only did she possess immense "Main Character" plot armor, but her current martial skills and newly awakened, bloodthirsty mindset made her far too lethal for those trash-tier zombies to handle.
Manami Katsura, on the other hand, was a different story. If left to her own devices in her corporate office, that sow would undoubtedly become zombie food within hours. Aside from her massive breasts, round buttocks, and corporate ruthlessness, she had zero survival skills.
Adrian wasn't ready to let his favorite dairy cow die just yet.
So, calculating the timing of the outbreak perfectly, he had sent a formal message to Manami earlier that morning, inviting her to the dojo under the pretense of discussing Kotonoha's "apprenticeship and academic future."
He had expected the lewd CEO to show up alone, eager for another session of abuse.
To his mild surprise, she hadn't come alone.
Kneeling before him on the tatami mats was Manami Katsura, her oblivious husband Mr. Katsura, and Kotonoha's younger sister, Kokoro.
The entire Katsura family had delivered themselves right to his doorstep.
