Chapter 105 - Chapter 105 – The Hand That Should Not Be Warm

The finger touched the air.

And the air recoiled.

Not metaphorically.

The temperature around it plummeted as moisture crystallized midair, forming delicate frost spirals that shattered before they could fall.

It was too long.

Too thin.

Jointed one time too many.

And where skin should have been—

There was texture.

Like layered parchment stretched over something that moved beneath it.

Eren did not step back.

That might have been his first mistake.

The Devourer screamed again inside his skull.

Not in rage.

In warning.

The flesh-roots lashed violently, striking the extended limb. They burned on contact, sizzling into ash as if they had struck something impossibly dense.

The finger did not withdraw.

Instead—

It bent.

Slowly.

Beckoning.

"You are curious," the voice whispered.

The membrane around the wound did not bleed.

It wept light.

Dim red strands sliding down the crystalline shell of the heart.

"Curiosity is the first infection."

Stone cracked above them.

Dust filtered down in thin streams.

Eren finally spoke.

"If I take it."

The silhouette inside leaned closer. Its outline sharpened—ribs too long, neck bending at an unnatural angle.

"You will not be alone again."

The words settled like frost beneath his skin.

The Wrong Warmth

Eren lifted his hand.

Just enough to feel the air shift.

The closer he brought his fingers—

The warmer the extended limb felt.

Not cold.

Not dead.

Warm.

Human warm.

That was worse.

His System flared violently.

Foreign Entity Synchronization Attempt

The Devourer pulsed in panic.

The chains strained.

Two more links cracked.

The chamber began to tilt as the platform's base fractured.

Above them—

Stonefall shook.

Citizens screamed as red light bled from cracks in the ground.

The siphon tower flickered uncontrollably.

Below—

Eren hesitated.

And the finger twitched.

Just slightly.

Impatient.

"You are afraid," the entity said softly.

A pause.

"Good."

The walls around them pulsed with faint organic movement.

Small shapes detached from the fleshy roots.

Not full creatures.

Not yet.

Proto-forms.

Half-developed limbs dragging across the stone floor.

Watching him.

Learning his posture.

Imitating.

The Devourer's Desperation

For the first time—

The Devourer acted without calculation.

The fleshy threads anchoring the heart tightened violently.

A surge of energy flooded the chains.

Runes blazed white-hot.

The extended finger smoked.

Cracks formed along its length.

The entity inside hissed.

Not pain.

Annoyance.

"You fear replacement," it murmured inward.

The Devourer answered with force.

A psychic blast slammed into Eren's skull.

Not to harm him—

To sever the connection forming.

Blood trickled from his nose.

Neural Pattern Stability: 74%

The finger trembled.

But it did not retreat.

Instead—

The membrane tore wider.

An entire hand emerged now.

Palm open.

Waiting.

The Imitation

The small proto-forms dragging across the chamber floor began to change.

Their shapes adjusted.

Spines straightening.

Limbs lengthening.

Faces smoothing into blurred approximations of Eren's own.

Featureless.

Skin stretched too tight.

One tilted its head the exact way he had moments earlier.

Another copied the way he held his breath.

They were not attacking.

They were rehearsing.

"You see?" the entity whispered.

"I do not destroy."

"I replicate."

The Devourer's suppression surged again.

The heart convulsed violently.

Three chains snapped at once.

Seal Integrity: 39%

The chamber floor split down the center.

A red fissure tore outward toward the tunnel leading back to Stonefall.

Above—

The first building collapsed.

Screams filtered down through the stone like distant birds.

The Choice Narrows

"If I refuse," Eren asked through clenched teeth, "what do you do?"

The hand rotated slowly.

Palm down.

Pressing against the invisible barrier of the seal.

"Then I continue learning the slow way."

The proto-forms stopped moving.

All at once.

They turned their blank faces toward the tunnel.

Toward the city.

"I will begin with them."

The Devourer shrieked.

The entity inside smiled.

"You destabilized the siphon."

A pause.

"You cracked my cage."

Its eyes—fully formed now—locked onto his.

"You cannot close it without me."

Another tremor shook the chamber.

Stonefall was breaking.

And this time—

It was not the Devourer doing it.

It was pressure from within.

The hand remained extended.

Waiting.

Patient.

Confident.

Eren could feel it now.

Not just power.

Perspective.

Vast.

Cold.

Curious.

And utterly without empathy.

Neural Pattern Stability: 68%

The Devourer's suppression faltered again.

The proto-forms took one synchronized step toward the tunnel.

Just one.

"You wanted horror," the entity murmured.

Its voice slipped beneath thought.

"I am what horror becomes when it survives."

The hand moved an inch closer to his own.

Warm.

Inviting.

Wrong.

The ceiling finally gave way.

Stone rained down.

The heart thrashed violently.

Another chain snapped.

Seal Integrity: 31%

And Eren had seconds—

Not minutes—

To decide.
