In theory, the journey to Cedar Creek was nothing more than a short diplomatic visit to thank the Alpha who had saved my life. Yet the entire time we moved steadily along the forest path, irritation simmered just beneath my skin.
Everyone was waiting to see how I would handle this and how I would behave in another Alpha's territory. Unfortunately for them, I had no intention of putting on a performance. When the tall wooden gates of Cedar Creek finally came into view, my irritation had grown into something dangerously close to rage.
The gates opened without delay. I had expected a formal greeting and a brief exchange of pleasantries. Instead, half the pack seemed to be gathered inside the courtyard with music filling the air.
The moment I stepped through the gates, a cheer erupted from the crowd. My jaw tightened.
"Oh, this is ridiculous," I muttered under my breath.
