The moment they were in the shadows, Vera didn't speak. She slammed him against the obsidian wall, her hands flying to his face. She stood on her tiptoes and crashed her lips against his with a desperation that was almost violent.
Kassian let out a muffled grunt of surprise, his hands instinctively catching her waist to steady her. But Vera wasn't looking for steady. She was looking for him.
She kissed him like she was trying to steal the very breath from his lungs. Her tongue tangled with his in a frantic, hungry rhythm, her fingers digging into his scalp, pulling at his silver hair as if she wanted to weave him into her own skin. She moved her mouth to his jaw, then to his neck, biting and sucking at the sensitive skin right over his pulse point.
"Vera..." Kassian groaned, his voice a deep, ragged sound that vibrated through her chest. "Careful. Someone could walk in."
