During summer vacation, some close friends gathered to discuss:
"The recent episodes of [ Gurren Lagann ] have been really good lately. No, the plot is absolutely brilliant."
"The animation is as excellent as ever. The battle scenes are always so fiery and exhilarating."
"You have to hand it to the Supervising Director who made [ Death Note ] and [ Lelouch ], two masterpieces. The quality is still top-notch."
"I just hope they can stick the landing in the final few episodes."
"I'm more worried about whether the last episode will pull the 'dead Male Lead' trope again. They say it'll be completely different this time, but I don't have much faith."
"Logically, it shouldn't happen, but who knows? Maybe the Male Lead will end up with a 'burnout' ending like Big Bro."
"Just don't let everyone die. That would be too hard to accept."
Online, a massive audience was buzzing with anticipation, eagerly awaiting the final episodes of the animation.
Week after week, the episodes aired, each one building the tension.
The culprit, Lushu, returned to the village where he was born and had a long conversation with the old Village Chief. Afterward, he found a secluded spot and attempted to take his own life. At the critical moment, the Male Lead, piloting the Gurren Lagann—a machine now capable of space-time jumps—arrived to stop him.
After restraining Lushu and leaving him to guard their Earthly home, the Male Lead, accompanied by those willing to join him in battle, used the Gurren Lagann's space-time jumping ability to head for the Anti-Spiral's main base.
A massive war erupted in the cosmos.
The Anti-Spirals' statue-like warships descended one after another, arrogantly declaring, "Watch, and despair. That is your absolute despair."
The Male Lead and his companions, awestruck by the sheer scale of the enemy, launched an attack on their warships. However, their weapons proved utterly ineffective against the enemy's defenses. Realizing they needed a larger drill and the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren Battleship, the Male Lead and Viral piloted the Gurren Lagann back to their own battleship to merge with it.
Kotang and the others stayed behind to hold off the enemy, but soon the enemy warships began advancing toward the Great Red Lotus Battleship.
The fusion of Gurren Lagann and the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren Battleship required a lengthy process. Realizing they were about to be overwhelmed, Kotang and the others rushed back to defend. However, the Anti-Spiral mechs suddenly intensified their attacks and became more agile, and Zosi, one of the main characters, was caught off guard and captured.
The other two, Ellac and Kid, immediately rushed to his aid.
Zosi, trapped in his mech, struggled desperately, roaring, "You...!"
One of the rescuers urged Zosi to hold on a little longer.
But Zosi knew he couldn't last. He calmly smiled, a cigarette dangling from his lips, and asked, "How far have I come?" Then, with a deafening explosion, he sacrificed himself heroically.
"You bastards!"
Kid, who had arrived too late, roared in fury. Unable to restrain himself any longer, he and Ellac launched a frenzied assault on the enemy mechs.
Countless energy cannon shells rained down on the enemy, but their ammunition quickly ran out.
"Simon, don't make the woman waiting for you cry," Ellac said through the team comms to the Male Lead.
Kid added, "Simon, you absolutely must... protect Nia..."
Then, they both declared:
"Partner, let's go all out one last time."
"Let them see the true spirit of the Crimson Lotus Gang!"
With battle cries, they charged their mechs toward the enemy.
Two more were lost in the fighting.
On the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren, enemies fired missiles through hyperspace gates at the Crimson Lotus Battleship. Yuko destroyed the first, Dali the second, but the third was too close to the ship to be intercepted, and the ship couldn't evade in time.
Macken, closest to the missile, instinctively crashed his mech into it.
Macken was an expectant father, and his wife Leeti, also a member of the Dai-Gurren Brigade, was aboard the battleship.
Leeti murmured softly, "My child's father..."
She quickly composed herself, turning to the others and saying, "Spiral Energy at 95%. Prepare for activation."
The fusion was imminent; they needed to prepare for the counterattack.
Meanwhile, Dali had been thrown back by the shockwave from destroying the enemy missile at point-blank range. Her unit was severely damaged, and she struggled to move. Kimi, who had grown up with her, rushed to her rescue, determined to bring her back to the Crimson Lotus Battleship.
Seeing the relentless enemy assault, Dali urged, "Kimi, you can't escape with me. You should flee alone."
"Don't be stupid! How could I ever leave you behind?" Kimi refused resolutely.
Just as they were about to be overwhelmed by the frenzied attacks, two members of the Dai-Gurren Brigade—the twin brothers Kakugan and Barinbo—arrived to assist.
The unit piloted by Kakugan and Barinbo flew toward their own battleship, carrying Kimi and Dali's units while enduring the enemy's relentless assault.
"This is bad... we might not make it back before we're overwhelmed," Kimi said worriedly.
The brothers replied:
"Don't worry. Durability is our twin-tyrant strength."
"I can see the ship!"
Of course, they were just trying to reassure Kimi.
From a great distance, the two men hurled Kimi and Dali's mechs toward their own battleship, saying:
"Kimi, protect Dali."
"Keep living, for both of us."
With that, they spun their mechs around, endured a devastating enemy assault, and exploded in peals of laughter.
Kimi was stunned.
Dali wept bitterly.
Inside the Crimson Lotus Battleship, the Male Lead, Simon, said with grief-stricken solemnity: "We will never forget. How could we ever forget? Not for a single moment."
A blue light erupted as they reached their critical point, on the verge of successfully merging. But the enemy suddenly compressed space into an ultra-dense state, forcing the Crimson Lotus Battleship into a Spiral Annihilation Field and plunging it into a sea of energy.
The Spiral Power could not be activated; any attempt only drew it in, pulling the battleship deeper into the crushing embrace of the energy ocean until the entire vessel was flattened.
An invisible pressure descended upon the crew, making it almost impossible to breathe.
At this critical moment, Simon made the decision: he ordered the Crimson Lotus Battleship to charge straight toward the Spiral Annihilator, intent on destroying it.
This maneuver put immense pressure on the Crimson Lotus Battleship, nearly destroying it. Only through the Male Lead and his pet Poo-ta's frantic Spiral Power output did the battleship manage to approach the Spiral Annihilator.
However, their Super Spiral Bullets failed to reach the Spiral Annihilator, being twisted and destroyed by the terrifying pressure shortly after being fired.
Seeing imminent annihilation, Yuko made a desperate decision: she would sacrifice herself, piloting a machine to carry a Super Spiral Bullet and destroy the Spiral Annihilator.
But before she could propose this, Kotang snatched the mission from her.
Kotang, who loved Yuko, bid her a final farewell before piloting his own machine and charging out of the Crimson Lotus Battleship toward the Spiral Annihilator.
"I'm not going to say some sappy 'goodbye, brothers' line, guys. I'll be right back!" Kotang declared with fiery enthusiasm. He used his drill to blast through the Spiral Annihilator's protective barrier and was about to unleash the Super Spiral Bullet when his machine began to be crushed and compressed by the overwhelming pressure.
A sudden explosion sent everyone's hearts into their throats.
Just as everyone thought Kotang had failed, a miracle occurred. He suddenly awakened Spiral Power, forcefully resisted the crushing pressure, and drove his Knightmare Frame toward the Spiral Annihilator.
"King-Kitan is still alive! Lend me the drill from Gurren Lagann, borrowed from our guardian deity!"
"This belongs to Simon, to the Dai-Gurren Brigade, to humanity, no—to my very soul! How could I let a nobody like you...!"
"Take this, King-Kitan! Giga Drill Break!"
Kotang roared, unleashing his most devastating attack against the Spiral Annihilator. He succeeded in destroying it, but was also consumed by the resulting explosion, leaving behind only a final, awestruck thought: "So this is the power of Spiral... Truly astonishing."
"The success rate for this operation was originally 0%," the Spiral King mused, his head now the only part of him left on the battleship. "Yet it seems numbers mean nothing to you."
With the Spiral Annihilator destroyed and the Spiral Power it had absorbed now converted back into Spiral Energy, the combined transformation could finally be initiated.
"Kotang, I accept your dying wish."
The Male Lead spoke with grief-stricken yet resolute determination. Then, together with Viral and Poo-ta, they once again initiated the combined transformation with the Crimson Lotus Battleship.
"The memories of my friend are etched into this body! Infinite darkness shall be transformed into light! Across heaven and earth, one machine, one heart—Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann!"
"Humanity's power... you'll see!"
The Male Lead shouted, controlling the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann to launch a ferocious assault on the enemy.
While they inflicted significant damage, the enemy's counterattack was equally fierce, especially with their Probability Manipulation Bullets, which could nullify the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann's defensive probability.
"Even controlling probability... have they truly stepped into the realm of gods?" Dali asked in disbelief.
The others also found themselves in a dire situation.
The enemy began their verbal assault, forcing the Male Lead to "see" the future of the universe—a future where Spiral Power itself would bring about its destruction.
Upon learning this, the Male Lead was deeply shaken.
Fortunately, the Spiral King quickly intervened to offer guidance: "The Anti-Spiral's words are true, but truth is not singular. Remember, Nia is still waiting for you. She endures silently, so that neither Earth nor the Spiral Race will be annihilated."
Hearing this, the Male Lead's spirits revived. "We'll have both women and the universe! We won't tremble at the thought of tomorrow, and we won't regret this moment! That's the Dai-Gurren Brigade!"
With that, they unleashed another frenzied assault, but the enemy quickly vanished, retreating into the probability-time axis.
Thanks to the Spiral King's explanation, the group finally pinpointed the enemy's location, leaving them nowhere to hide.
After a massive special attack, the enemy's interference with the illusion vanished. The Male Lead and his allies finally used a space-time jump to reach Nia, but they were immediately trapped in a multidimensional mental illusion. It was only through the Spiral King and Poo-ta holding the enemy at bay, Kamina's mental guidance, and the power of the Core Drill that they managed to break free from the illusion.
Just as Nia was being tortured and on the verge of destruction, the Male Lead's Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann performed a trans-dimensional jump, arriving before Nia and successfully rescuing her.
Then, each member delivered a fiery line in unison:
"Even if bound by the cycle of cause and effect!"
"The memories of the past will open the way!"
"Even if the boundless universe stands before us!"
"Our burning blood will shatter fate!"
"Heaven and dimensions, all shattered!"
"Grasping our own Dao with our bare hands! Gurren Lagann! Who do you think we are?!"
The final, decisive battle between the two sides erupted, shaking the universe and twisting space-time.
However, the Anti-Spiral proved too overwhelming; the protagonist group was no match for them.
"We're utterly outmatched."
"If this continues, we can't protect Earth."
Many members of the protagonist group couldn't help but fall into despair.
The battle's interference with the Spiral Realm's cognitive system had created temporal branches, exposing Earth to the enemy.
Now, the enemy was about to launch an attack on Earth.
The protagonist group desperately tried to stop them.
Enraged, the enemy unleashed a creation-level ultimate move: the Endless Creation Light.
The protagonist group was helpless.
At this critical moment, the Spiral King, who had temporarily regained a physical form, seized control of a machine and voluntarily absorbed the enemy's devastating attack.
Finally, he turned to Nia and said, "Don't mourn for me, my daughter. A soul that once sank into the sea of despair and weariness has returned here. If this temporary body can be used to create a future for the Spiral Race, then I have no regrets."
Enduring the attack, he actively performed quantum decomposition and energy assimilation, neutralizing the enemy's terrifying strike. He then transformed into an immensely large drill and fell into the hands of the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann, piloted by the Male Lead and his companions.
What followed was a spectacular battle.
But now, the tide had turned, and the protagonists held the upper hand.
"Remember this, this drill will pierce a hole through the universe! That hole will become a path for those who come after, weaving the wishes of those who fell and the hopes of those yet to come into a double helix, carving out a path to tomorrow! That is Gurren Lagann! That is the Gurren Lagann!"
"My drill is the drill that splits heaven and earth!"
The Male Lead roared, launching a ferocious assault on the enemy.
In the end, the Anti-Spiral was inevitably defeated and annihilated.
However, Nia, the Female Lead, had long since become one with the Anti-Spiral. The Anti-Spiral's destruction meant Nia would also vanish.
The great war ended.
The group finally returned to Earth.
At the wedding of the Male Lead and Nia, they shared a passionate kiss amidst the cheers of the guests. But before they could part, Nia began to fade away, bit by bit.
The Male Lead showed no surprise. He simply said, "Nia, I will never forget you, even if this universe is destroyed."
"Silly, it won't be destroyed," Nia replied with a smile. "Didn't we fight all this way for that very goal?"
"Hmm, you're right."
"I love you, Simon."
"I love you too."
After exchanging their declarations of love, Nia completely vanished.
The guests were stunned.
Though resurrection was possible, the Male Lead refused, believing that death should remain final. He argued that forcing her back to life would only burden future generations.
In the end, he entrusted the affairs of state to Lushu, saying, "I am Simon the Tunnel Digger," and embarked on his journey alone.
