The flight back to Earth was quiet, almost eerily so. Julius and I remained in the cockpit of our shuttle, reviewing the battle logs and Carol's readings. The aftermath of the Kree incursion still hung in the air—massive fleets clashing in orbit, the raw power Carol displayed, and most importantly, the fact that the Tesseract remained unaccounted for.
"Still nowhere to be found," Julius muttered, his eyes scanning the data. "I have a feeling it's somewhere in SHIELD's custody. They won't tell us, of course."
"Of course not," I said, leaning back in my chair. "They've always been territorial about alien tech, especially objects of this magnitude. But we have all the secondary data we need: modified engine designs, readings on the Kree, and her energy signatures. That's enough for now."
We landed at Site 01, the heart of the Foundation, also known as God's Blind Spot. Security clearance was tight—level 4 for the debrief—but with Julius and me, the other members trusted the operation. As we entered the council chamber, the remaining 05 members were already assembled. A holographic map displayed the last known positions of the alien ships and Carol's trajectory.
I cleared my throat. "The Kree fleet attempted a full-scale incursion. The entity known as Carol Danvers intervened and successfully neutralized the threat. No losses to personnel, aside from one light cruiser. All other ships remain operational. However…" I paused, emphasizing the next point, "…the Tesseract was not recovered. Our intelligence suggests SHIELD may currently possess it."
O5-4 leaned forward, fingers steepled. "The modified plane you tracked—was it connected to Danvers?"
"Yes," Julius replied. "She piloted it initially, then linked with the Kree fleet in orbit. The readings indicate she has a direct spatial energy connection. Her presence alone was enough to repel the fleet."
O5-12, Michael, raised an eyebrow. "And you're confident there's no residual threat? No hidden Kree agents on Earth?"
I shook my head. "None detected. Darius' network has already scanned for anomalies and infiltrators. We're clear, though the Tesseract remains a potential risk. SHIELD's possession means we'll need to continue monitoring them. We cannot underestimate the implications if they attempt to weaponize it."
O5-3, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke. "And Carol? What is our stance? Containment? Recruitment? Monitoring?"
Julius answered. "For now, safe. She's left Earth, has promised not to disclose our operations, and provided a method of contact should the planet require her assistance. Attempting containment would cost excessive resources and is unnecessary. We classify her as a safe anomaly with potential for cooperative engagement."
O5-9 nodded in agreement. "Proceed as you have. Maintain surveillance and continue communications discreetly. The Tesseract must remain our top priority; monitor SHIELD closely."
I stepped forward, concluding. "All other readings have been logged. The fleet remains at peak readiness, and we have adjusted orbital defense protocols to account for any further Kree movements. Any future interactions will be handled with the same discretion and efficiency."
The council members nodded, satisfied with our handling of the situation. The meeting concluded swiftly, and Julius and I stepped out of the chamber, the weight of the encounter still lingering.
"Think SHIELD suspects anything?" Julius asked as we walked toward the exit.
"Not yet," I replied. "But the Tesseract is a ticking clock. Eventually, we'll have to act… carefully. For now, we maintain vigilance and let the pieces fall into place."
The Foundation's grip on Earth—and on alien threats—remained unshaken, but even with our power, the universe continued to throw unexpected challenges our way. And the Tesseract? That mystery was far from over.
