Vespera Vale did not dismiss them.

She withdrew with intention, leaving the private display intact as though her presence had only been one layer of its function rather than its purpose.

The room held its shape after she left, but something within it recalibrated. The air did not relax. It reorganized.

Galathea Brooks remained in place, her attention fixed on the canvas Vespera had positioned between them.

It did not demand attention the way most works in elite collections did.

It resisted.

Its composition held together, but not comfortably.

The longer she looked at it, the more it felt like something waiting to be completed rather than something already finished.

That was where the disturbance lived.

Not visible.

Perceptible.

Behind her, Cael Alexander moved. His steps were quiet, but his presence was not.

He had always altered space without effort; people adjusted to him before they realized they were doing it.

"You're thinking too far ahead," he said.
