The Spine shot through the warehouse like a living streak of black lightning.
It vanished between shifting walls, its ancient filaments dragging ribbons of luminous energy behind it. Every time Qavael gained ground, the structure bent around the fleeing entity, opening one passage while sealing another.
Qavael snarled and surged forward, massive black wings driving him through the darkness. Alistair moved alongside him in his crimson demon form, carrying Jadelyn securely against his chest.
"We'll find her, right?" Jadelyn asked against Alistair's skin.
Alistair only growled, tightening his hold on her.
Qavael didn't answer. He had Tansy secured against one arm, her small body protected beneath the sweep of his wing.
Then the warehouse changed.
The rusted walls dissolved.
