"I'm telling you! It must have been the Great White Wolf Fae! It must have! My attempts haven't been in vain at all!"
"..."
Saria Vallhall exclaimed, smacking her hands against the dinner table hard enough to make the cutlery chatter, but none of the other people gathered for a meal responded to her.
Some exchanged looks, shaking their heads, but none bothered to argue with the silver-haired girl.
Ever since she returned home for a summer break from the Royal Academy, Saria would talk about how the Grand White Wolf Fae protected her from a potentially fatal blow during her duel with a second-year boy, at least three times a day.
Of course, whenever she had time, she would attempt to summon the Great White Wolf Fae, but each time the result would be the exact same as it was for any other member of the Vallhall family for the past four hundred years.
A failure.
"Are you sure it wasn't just someone pretending to be it?"
"It didn't have to pretend! It was the Great White Wolf Fae! Even if it was just one of its arms, its presence was unmatched!"
One of Saria's cousins suggested, but Saria didn't even pretend to consider that as an explanation.
"So it was just an arm that didn't claim to be anything. How are you so sure it was the Grand White Wolf Fae? Maybe it was just your father or uncle, or just someone from the main family, anonymously trying to keep an eye on you… Grand Fae knows you need that…"
"No, it wasn't! It had a scar all around its wrist! It was a very neat one, and looked almost like a bracelet at first glance! I checked, and no one in the castle has something like that! Not to mention the size of the arm! It was huge! Not even dad is that big!"
Someone else pointed out, stealing a glance at the patriarch at the top of the long table peacefully eating, but Saria refuted them, shaking her head and declaring.
"It could have been an illusion then. Dance on the Frozen Lake can easily fake both the size and some scars. What about the scent? That should give you the answer you're looking for."
"...!"
Another person suggested, and this time Saria flinched and visibly deflated, slouching and lowering her head in embarrassment.
Before answering, she raised one hand and awkwardly rubbed the adhesive bandage infused with healing ointments placed across her nose.
"My nose was completely blocked by blood, and I couldn't smell anything else…"
She admitted awkwardly…
"But it must have been the Grand White Wolf Far! It definitely was!"
|Why else would it make me feel so safe when it patted my head?! Not even dad or mom can make me feel that way?!|
…she hurriedly added, even though the second part was only spoken out in her own head and not out loud. Her reasoning was far too childish, and she was well aware of that, so she kept it to herself.
But she knew.
She was certain that there couldn't be any other explanation.
Definitely!
