Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE — THE FIRST DESCENDANT

Morning sunlight filtered through the bamboo groves, scattering pale gold across the stone paths of Qingzhu Mountain. Mist drifted lazily between the stalks, soft and ethereal.

Lin Fei stood in his courtyard, hands clasped behind his back, posture straight.

His long hair fell loosely down his back, and the faint vertical slit in his pupils reflected the rising sun with quiet sharpness.

Soft footsteps approached.

It was Mei, the maid assigned to his courtyard — a quiet girl with steady hands and downcast eyes. She bowed deeply.

"Master Lin, breakfast is prepared. Madam Shuyin seems… a little unwell this morning."

Lin Fei's gaze shifted.

Unwell?

A faint ripple stirred deep within him —

a warmth blooming like a spark in darkness.

The Heaven‑Falling Seal pulsed once, silently, invisibly.

Lineage: +1 (Gestation)

The sensation faded.

Lin Fei's expression did not change.

But inwardly—

So it has begun.

He knew before anyone else.

His child had already taken root.

---

Lin Fei entered the inner room.

Lin Shuyin sat on the bed, pale but composed, one hand resting lightly on her abdomen.

Lin Shulan hovered beside her, worry clouding her eyes.

"Husband," Shuyin whispered, "I… feel strange."

Lin Fei approached.

He didn't need to touch her.

He already knew.

"You are pregnant with my child," he said calmly.

Both sisters froze.

Shulan's eyes widened.

"Already…? But it has only been—"

Shuyin's breath trembled.

Her fingers tightened around the blanket.

"Husband… truly?"

Lin Fei nodded.

"It is certain."

Shuyin covered her mouth, tears gathering in her eyes.

Shulan let out a shaky breath of relief and joy.

Mei bowed deeply, voice trembling.

"Congratulations, Master… Mistress…"

Lin Fei said nothing more.

But inside—

Even a mortal child… carries my blood.

---

Word spread quickly.

The Lin Family midwife arrived, examined Shuyin carefully, and bowed deeply.

"Indeed… she is with child. A strong pulse. A blessed omen."

Shuyin's eyes softened with relief.

Shulan hugged her sister tightly.

Lin Fei stood quietly, watching.

Inside, he felt only a faint echo —

a quiet acknowledgment from the Heaven‑Falling Seal.

Nothing more.

As expected. A mortal child brings no awakening.

He kept the thought to himself.

---

Outside, the courtyard buzzed with whispers.

"A child so soon?"

"His wives are only from a side branch…"

"Still, a child strengthens the clan."

"The patriarch will be pleased."

Lin Yuanding arrived with a booming laugh.

"Good! Very good! The Lin Family welcomes a new branch!"

He clapped Lin Fei on the shoulder.

"You've done well. Even a child in the womb strengthens our foundation."

Lin Fei bowed slightly.

"It is the natural course."

Inside, his thoughts remained calm.

One child is not enough.

But a lineage… a lineage can shape destiny.

---

That evening, Mei quietly prepared warm soup and herbal tonics for Shuyin.

She moved with practiced grace, her presence gentle and unobtrusive.

Shulan watched her thoughtfully.

"Mei… thank you."

Mei bowed.

"It is my duty, Madam."

Lin Fei observed silently.

A household needed stability.

Mei provided it.

She would remain.

---

That night, Lin Fei meditated beneath the moonlight.

The Heaven‑Falling Seal rested quietly within him.

No awakening.

No stirring.

Only silence.

As it should be, he thought.

The dragon sleeps until the right bloodline appears.

He opened his eyes.

Cold.

Calm.

Ancient.

The wind rustled the bamboo leaves.

Lin Fei closed his eyes again, letting the night settle around him.

A quiet night.

A child not yet born.

A step forward on the long path ahead.
