Edgar sighed and silently pulled out his Magic Phone, dialing Lynn's number.
Beep—
The call was picked up after only ringing for a second.
Lynn's impatient voice came from the other side, carrying a hint of resentment at being disturbed, "You'd better have a good reason."
Edgar scratched his head, looking at the ground rapidly approaching outside the window, and said in a "half-dead" tone, "I'm about to crash."
There was a silence of about two seconds on the other end of the line.
Then Lynn's voice rang out again, this time without impatience, only two crisp words: "Location."
"Above the Atlantic, I don't know the exact—"
Before he could finish, the call was already disconnected.
Edgar took the Magic Phone away from his ear and stared at the words "Call Ended" on the screen, stunned for a moment.
The next second, a burst of golden-red light lit up outside the cabin.
That light fell straight down from above the clouds, its speed so fast it looked like a meteor smashing down from the edge of the sky.
It passed through the clouds, flew past the falling plane, and stopped abruptly beneath the fuselage.
The golden-red light exploded, and Levi emerged from that light, spreading its wings.
Its tail feathers trailed golden light fragments like stardust, and every flap of its wings showered down a large expanse of warm light.
That light fell upon the falling plane like an invisible palm, supporting the massive object that was accelerating toward the earth.
The plane's descent jerked to a halt—as if something was holding it up from below, forcing it to hover in mid-air.
The clouds outside the window no longer rushed upward. The passengers still screaming in the cabin were thrown about by this sudden stop; some slid from their seats, some hit the backs of the chairs in front of them, and some gripped their armrests so hard their knuckles turned white.
But that plane truly stopped, suspended motionless above the Atlantic Ocean.
Edgar looked up through the window, seeing only a cluster of dissipating golden-red light fragments and a figure descending straight down from above the clouds.
That figure stood in the air, wand in hand, looking down at the plane.
Then he vanished.
The next second, Lynn appeared inside the cabin.
"That was fast," Edgar managed a smile that looked worse than crying. "As expected of you."
Lynn ignored him.
His gaze was already locked onto the churning black mist above the aisle—and the child beneath it, whose skin was covered in crawling black veins.
Without a word, he raised his hand and fired a bolt of lightning.
A blue-white electric arc exploded in the narrow cabin, heading straight for the black mist.
Before the surrounding passengers could react, the light had already slammed into the surface of the black mist.
The child instinctively waved a wand, and the black mist instantly condensed into a translucent black shield in front of him.
Boom—!
The lightning struck the shield, exploding into a blinding white light.
The black mist churned violently, and several cracks appeared on the shield's surface, but it did not shatter.
The shockwave of the explosion echoed through the cabin; seats shook, and bags fell from the overhead bins with a clatter. Thick smoke rose from the point of impact, instantly filling the entire aisle.
Lynn waved his wand, and a gust of wild wind surged from the tip, blowing the black mist away.
The moment the smoke cleared, he heard a crisp sound—the sound of breaking glass.
The child possessed by the obscurial instantly smashed through a window and flew out.
Glass shards flew through the cabin, the air pressure changed abruptly, and a gale rushed in, blowing nearby passengers off balance.
Oxygen masks popped out from above, dangling in the aisle.
Lynn's eyes sharpened, and his body followed, darting out.
Lynn stood in the air, his gaze locked onto the black figure fleeing rapidly ahead.
In almost the blink of an eye, he caught up behind the obscurial.
The high-altitude wind howled in his ears, and clouds rolled beneath his feet. The black mist was just a dozen meters ahead, trailing a long wake like a black meteor.
That child—no, the obscurial—suddenly turned around in mid-air.
With a wave of a wand, the entire mass of black mist instantly expanded, twisted, and deformed, transforming into a hideous giant serpent in the blink of an eye.
Its body was longer than that great ship of Durmstrang, entirely pitch-black, with scales that shimmered with an eerie luster under the sunlight.
Its mouth opened, revealing a maw full of black fangs. A thick black liquid surged up from deep within its throat, spraying directly toward Lynn.
Lynn's pupils constricted as his body surged upward.
The black liquid brushed past the soles of his feet and fell into the Atlantic below; instantly, a large patch of fish floated to the surface, belly-up.
He steadied himself and pointed his wand downward.
A thick stream of water erupted from the wand's tip like a water dragon, roaring as it charged toward the giant serpent.
The serpent neither dodged nor avoided it, opening its mouth to spit another mouthful of black liquid, which collided with the water column.
Sizzle—
The moment the two liquids touched, the black liquid climbed up the water column like a living thing. Its speed was astonishing, reaching the top of the column in an instant, threatening to spread to Lynn's wand tip.
Lynn decisively cut off the flow of water.
With a flick of his wrist, the water column broke in the middle, and the upper half fell back into the sea along with the black liquid.
Using this opening, he flashed to the side, putting some distance between them.
Failing its strike, the black serpent twisted its body in the air and lunged toward Lynn.
Lynn steadied himself and waved his wand to his side.
Lightning condensed at his wand tip, splitting into countless tiny electric arcs.
Those arcs stretched and deformed in the air, turning into dozens of blue-white arrows in the blink of an eye. They hung densely by his side, their tips all aimed at the charging giant serpent.
He flicked his wrist.
The arrows fired in unison.
Dozens of blue-white lights pierced the sky, carrying a piercing whistle as they shot toward the giant serpent from all angles.
The serpent twisted its body, and its massive tail swept across, crushing most of the arrows coming from the front.
Lightning exploded against its scales, sending sparks flying, but those scales were harder than armored plating. The arrows struck them without even leaving a white mark.
The damage was minimal, but the insult was immense.
The giant serpent flicked its tail, crushing the last few arrows, and then turned its head, aiming at Lynn once more.
Then it saw that the wand in Lynn's hand was gone.
In its place was a blade.
A great blade condensed from Fiendfyre.
The blade was over a person's height, entirely golden-red. Flames flowed along the edge, and the heat distorted the surrounding air. Tiny sparks jumped at the hilt, each flicker accompanied by a sharp crackling pop.
He gripped the blade with both hands and slashed down.
The black serpent had no time to dodge and could only take it head-on. It opened its mouth, catching the blade's edge with its black fangs.
Boom—!!!
The golden-red flames and the black mist collided, erupting in a visible shockwave.
Sparks flew and black mist churned as the blade's edge slammed firmly into the giant serpent's upper jaw.
The giant serpent let out a roar, its massive body twisting in the air. Its tail lashed out frantically, the resulting wind pressure tearing through the surrounding clouds.
But it did not retreat.
It bit down on the blade, its fangs locking onto the flame-condensed body of the sword, dragging Lynn down toward the ground.
The wind shrieked in his ears, clouds rushed past on both sides, and the outline of the ground became clearer and clearer.
Lynn gritted his teeth, gripping the blade with both hands. The power of Thousand Refinements poured into his arms; his muscles bulged, and veins popped.
He let out a low growl and threw it off with all his might—
The giant serpent was thrown hundreds of meters away, its body tumbling several times in the air. Its tail swept across the sea, kicking up a wall of water dozens of meters high.
Lynn also took the opportunity to steady himself.
The Fiendfyre blade in his hand did not dissipate; instead, it grew even larger.
The blade's length surged from one person's height to double that. Flames leaped along the edge, painting the surrounding clouds golden-red. He held the blade with both hands, the tip pointing diagonally downward, suspended in mid-air like a divine statue emerging from a sea of fire.
The giant serpent hesitated for a moment before charging at Lynn again.
Lynn stood his ground, and the moment the serpent was about to reach him—
The blade's edge carved an arc from bottom to top, the flames trailing a long wake behind the edge.
The black serpent had no time to hide.
The blade sliced from the serpent's belly to its neck. The flames burned a deep trench into its body, and black scales flew in all directions, dissipating into wisps of black smoke.
The black serpent was sent flying backward again, tumbling several times in the air before crashing into a thick layer of clouds.
Lynn gave it no chance to breathe.
He flicked his wrist, and the Fiendfyre blade instantly dispersed, turning into a towering inferno that surged toward the tumbling giant serpent from all directions.
The flames were like a giant palm, closing and tightening, clutching the giant serpent entirely within its grasp.
Impact sounds came from within the fireball.
One, two, three.
The black serpent crashed frantically inside the fireball, its tail lashing at the walls of fire, its head ramming them, its body coiling around them, trying to tear an opening to escape.
The sounds of impact grew weaker, and the intervals between them grew longer.
The black serpent's struggles gradually subsided.
Inside the fireball, the giant black serpent began to shrink. Scales fell off one after another, turning into black smoke and dissipating.
The moment the last scale fell, the black serpent vanished completely.
The giant serpent was gone, replaced by the child. He was curled into a ball, floating in mid-air. The black markings on his skin were still there, but they were no longer as heavy as before.
His eyes were closed, his breathing was faint, and his face was pale.
Seeing this, Lynn waved his wand, and a Binding Spell wrapped around him.
He approached cautiously, preparing to try and strip the obscurial from the child's body.
Just then—
The child suddenly let out a shrill scream, his whole body convulsing violently before he fainted outright.
The black markings beneath his skin began to surge frantically, as if something was churning inside him.
The next second, a mass of black mist shot out from his chest.
The obscurial had stripped itself away.
It paused in the air for a moment, as if identifying a direction, and then suddenly fled into the distance. Its speed was incredible, covering hundreds of meters in an instant.
Lynn flicked his wand, and an invisible blade chased after it.
But before the blade could hit, the obscurial suddenly paused in mid-air and then—split apart.
As if sliced down the middle by something, the mass of black mist divided into two halves.
One half continued to flee into the distance, while the other half turned around and flew straight toward the plane where Edgar was.
Lynn's pupils shrank.
"Damn it!"
He cursed and unhesitatingly turned to chase after the plane.
