Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: The Coda(series finale)

The mountains were quiet.

Too quiet.

Rey stood at the edge of the broken crater where the underground facility used to be. What remained of it was mostly collapsed stone and twisted metal buried under dirt and debris.

The place where everything had started.

The wind moved softly through the ruined area.

Rey stared down into the darkness.

"…This place again."

The mark on his arm glowed faintly.

"…Something is down there," Luma whispered.

Rey rubbed the back of his neck.

"Of course there is."

He carefully climbed down the unstable rocks until he reached the lower chamber where the entrance had once been.

Most of the facility had collapsed, but part of the central chamber still existed.

Broken pillars.

Cracked floors.

Dust everywhere.

And in the center…

Something moved.

Rey stopped.

A dark shape slowly rose from the rubble.

Not like the shadow from before.

This one was smaller.

Weaker.

Like something that had just woken up after centuries of sleep.

Its form shifted like smoke trying to take shape.

A faint whisper echoed through the chamber.

"...Host…"

Rey sighed.

"Yeah, I had a feeling."

The creature drifted closer.

It wasn't attacking yet.

Just observing him.

Testing.

Luma's voice filled his mind.

"…It's incomplete."

"What does that mean?"

"…It lost part of itself when the shadow was destroyed."

Rey narrowed his eyes.

"So it's injured."

The creature moved again, reaching toward him.

"Host…"

The air around Rey grew colder.

The creature tried to push into his mind.

But something stopped it.

Silver light burst from the mark.

The creature recoiled immediately.

Luma spoke firmly.

"…You cannot take him."

For the first time Rey heard strength in her voice.

Not fear.

Power.

The dark entity shrieked softly.

It wasn't strong enough.

Not anymore.

Rey stepped forward slowly.

"Listen," he said.

"I'm really tired of shadow monsters trying to move into my head."

The creature trembled.

The silver light grew brighter.

The darkness started breaking apart like smoke in strong wind.

Luma whispered:

"…It's dissolving."

Rey watched as the creature slowly collapsed into fragments of shadow that faded into the air.

No explosion.

No battle.

Just the final echo of something that had already been defeated.

The chamber grew quiet again.

Rey exhaled.

"…That was easier than last time."

The mark dimmed slightly.

Luma sounded relieved.

"…Because it was alone."

Rey nodded slowly.

He looked around the destroyed facility one last time.

"So that's it?"

"…Yes."

He turned toward the exit.

"Good."

For the first time since everything began…

It was truly over.

.....

Weeks passed.

Life returned to normal.

School.

Homework.

Ordinary days.

Rey sat in class staring out the window while the teacher talked about something involving algebra.

Claire leaned over from the desk beside him.

"You're not paying attention again."

Rey whispered back,

"I'm listening spiritually."

"That's not a real thing."

Rey smirked.

"Depends who you ask."

Claire rolled her eyes.

But she smiled slightly.

Everything felt normal again.

After school Rey walked home through the park like he always did.

The sun was setting, painting the sky orange and purple.

Luma spoke quietly in his mind.

"…You seem happier."

Rey nodded.

"Things are finally calm."

"…Is this what normal life is?"

"Pretty much."

Luma thought about that.

"…I like it."

Rey smiled.

"Yeah."

"Me too."

He sat down on the bench where she had first spoken.

The same place everything had changed.

"So what do you want to do now?" Rey asked.

"…Learn."

"Learn what?"

"…Everything."

Rey laughed.

"That's a long list."

"…We have time."

He leaned back against the bench and watched the sunset.

For a while neither of them said anything.

Just quiet.

Peaceful silence.

Then Luma spoke again.

"…Rey?"

"Yeah?"

"…Thank you."

Rey tilted his head slightly.

"For what?"

"…For not being afraid of me."

Rey looked down at the faint mark on his arm.

"You saved me too."

The glow warmed gently.

And for the first time since the beginning…

Rey felt completely at peace.

...…

Night.

Rey slept peacefully in his room.

Moonlight spilled through the window.

The room was silent.

Only a faint light shone from Rey.

The mark on his arm glowed softly, pulsing once… then fading.
