Chapter 108 - Ambush

Seeing Hydreigon at this hour was not a good sign.

After all, Hydreigon wasn't like Oddish, which they had previously introduced as a nocturnal Pokémon.

It was already late. There was a strong possibility the vicious dragon would find a place nearby to rest. Worse yet, this area might even be one of its nests.

The thought of such a terrifying dragon sleeping somewhere close by instantly made Chen Mo feel uneasy.

"Brother Mo, I still didn't see the Butterfree."

Ah Hui returned to the campfire, his face full of disappointment.

Aside from a few special circumstances, he had spent most of the day near the flower field, waiting for the Butterfree to return. Unfortunately, not a single trace of them appeared.

"It's fine. We still have time. We can wait a bit longer."

Though Hydreigon weighed heavily on his mind, Chen Mo wasn't about to panic and flee immediately.

"Brother Mo, do you think it's possible the Butterfree have already started migrating, like you said, and left Evergreen Forest?"

"I'm not sure."

Under the flickering firelight, Ah Hui's expression revealed his anxiety and uncertainty.

Chen Mo understood.

The more uncertain the situation became, the more nervous this sensitive young man grew.

The two chatted by the fire for quite a while. When night deepened, Chen Mo had Brother Yi end the stream and extinguish the fire. They prepared to rest and reassess the situation the next day.

Before entering the tent, Chen Mo glanced up at the sky once more.

Unluckily, thick clouds had obscured where the moon should have been. Under the faint moonlight filtering through the clouds, the land appeared even more desolate and silent.

"Let's hope nothing happens…"

Feeling an inexplicable sense of unease, Chen Mo sighed softly before stepping into the tent.

While Chen Mo and the others had already drifted into sleep, several kilometers away, inside a cave, the poachers were wide awake.

Half an hour earlier, the alarm trap outside the cave had been triggered.

Startled awake, the poachers peered down the narrow passage leading outside—and saw the silhouette of a magical beast.

It was a small humanoid creature, as if dressed in a green gown. In its left hand bloomed a blue rose; in its right, a red one.

Though the poachers had no specific intelligence on this humanoid beast, comparing it to the small green creature they had captured earlier, they could easily tell the two were closely related.

Sure enough—

The moment it saw them, the beast launched an attack.

Leaves glowing with green light shot from the roses in its hands, streaking down the narrow corridor toward the poachers inside.

Had the lookout not dodged in time, that single move might have taken his life.

But after that exchange, the poachers grew alert.

The visitor had hostile intent—but there was no way they would hand over the captured beasts.

After all, they had deliberately chosen this low cave. The passage was so narrow that only one person could squeeze through sideways.

Under such conditions, if the beast wanted to enter, it would first have to see whether their hunting rifles agreed.

"Roselia!"

Forced back again by gunfire, Roselia's face burned with fury.

Staring at the despicable humans inside the cave—who had stolen her child and now laughed arrogantly—her anger intensified.

At some point, the clouds drifted away, and moonlight fell upon Roselia.

Specks of light began gathering in her hands.

After a long lull, one of the poachers cautiously peeked outside—and happened to witness this scene.

Though he didn't know what Roselia was about to do, sensing something was wrong, he hurriedly called out to their leader, who had been sitting with eyes closed.

"Boss! Something's happening!"

"What?"

The middle-aged man in the black headscarf opened his eyes.

Frowning, he moved forward as the others made way, and glanced outside.

When he saw the dazzling light gathering in Roselia's hands, his pupils shrank violently.

There was no time to curse the lookout. The man threw himself aside and roared at the top of his lungs—

"Get down!"

The words had barely left his mouth—

when a beam of light blasted straight into the narrow passage.

Terrifying energy erupted, colliding with the rock walls. The explosion shook the entire cave, stones raining down everywhere.

At the same time—

in a deep, shadowed cavern not far away, disturbed by the violent energy fluctuation, a pair of crimson eyes opened in the darkness.

A brutal aura spread outward like a storm.

"…I underestimated it."

Lying on the ground and feigning unconsciousness while stones struck his unlucky subordinates, the middle-aged man's expression darkened to the extreme.

He turned his head.

The once narrow passage had been blown open by the beam, now forming a wide entrance.

"Roselia!"

The petite figure leapt through the smoke and entered the cave.

Soon, Roselia saw her child—Budew—bound in iron chains and unconscious. Beside Budew lay a yellow Pokémon.

Though blood had dried across its body and it looked utterly miserable, still breathing despite being unconscious—

Electabuzz's survival was nothing short of a miracle.

"Roselia!"

With another barrage of Magical Leaf, the chains binding both Pokémon shattered instantly.

But at that very moment—

a sharp gunshot rang out.

A bullet from a hunting rifle struck Roselia in the back, completely unguarded.

"I underestimated you—but so did you."

A cold voice sounded from behind.

Roselia turned.

The middle-aged man stood at the cave entrance, rifle aimed squarely at her.

"It's over."

Just as he prepared to pull the trigger—

a deafening roar filled with overwhelming pressure erupted from outside the cave.

Before he could react—

violent tremors shook the ceiling.

An orange-red beam far more terrifying than the previous one tore through the rock overhead and crashed down into the cave.

It was a force beyond description.

Staring at the blinding, destructive energy, the man's pupils filled with boundless terror.

The next instant—

the ground could no longer withstand the impact. It collapsed, plunging downward into deeper darkness.

"ROAR!"

Having unleashed the attack, Hydreigon hovered under the moonlight, gazing at the massive crater it had created.

Its crimson eyes still burned with savage violence.

It—

was not yet satisfied.
