Chapter 23 - The Fire He Refused to Extinguish

It was morning already and the cloud was dark and low due to the heavy rain that was about to pour. Emma woke and turned, thinking Brandon was on her bed. However, she was alone in the bedchamber. She had crazy feelings after a horrible nightmare and she noticed her body was wet and her private center was pulsating and tingling with pleasure.

She hardly recalled her dreams, but she recalled this one. She was lying on the bed when Brandon came back to her chamber, undressed her and they began to spoon. His hand carelessly skimmed her waist and slowly moved down to her silky thigh. His fingers delved into her delicate softness and swept over her most guarded place and she jerked off the moment she looked upon the Moon Goddess smiling at them. The Goddess met her gaze and whispered, "It is the right time."

The last time she had such a dream with the Moon Goddess, she had been told, "Your happy days are near." That message came only a few moon cycles before Lunara threw her out. Now she wondered—why did that cruel moment feel like the beginning of her happy days? And what, exactly, was the right time the Moon Goddess spoke of?

She opened her eyes and turned immediately, but he was not with her. She took a deep breath and ran off to the bathchamber to bathe. She has never experienced such a feeling. It happened probably because she was restless last moon-fall and she didn't do anything to quench the fire he ignited and left. Brandon really has natural charms and she-wolves fall easily for it. She saw the reason why the she-wolves kept hanging around him.

She left her bedchamber with the determination to be Brandon's mate, and be open-minded. She just discovered he was having a hard time figuring out what she wanted and this could be the reason why he couldn't stay with her last moon-fall.

"Nobody can help me in this mating bond if I'm unwilling to help myself," she whimpered as she walked down the stairs. She allowed her timidity to take the lead so much that she let Brandon guess how much she cared about him, but not anymore!

She walked down the stairs to see how the workers were doing their moonrise chores. She did not hesitate to introduce herself to them. She was shocked when she found out that all the domestic staff knew she was the alpha's mate already.

She was heading to the feeding chamber when she heard laughter in Brandon's exclusive lounge. With the little courage she built up, she began to walk towards the lounge. Two pretty she-wolves were already in the lounge waiting for Brandon. Her face twisted in a rage immediately.

"Isn't it rather too early to visit your moonally?" She asked the she-wolves. They looked at her and continued their conversation. It was as though a fool was talking to them. "If you don't talk to me, I'll have to ask you to leave," she said politely.

"Who the hell are you?" One of the she-wolves screamed at her.

"I'm his mate."

The she-wolves exchanged glances and burst into laughter. She felt embarrassed because she just realized it was not her duty to introduce herself to them.

"I'm kidding," she muffled.

"Don't worry, we know that's why we are laughing at you. Everybody knows his gorgeous mate."

She turned and headed towards the exit with her head lowered. Mr. Richard once told her he is mated and she took it as a joke.

"She is the new maid that was employed last moon cycle," she heard one of the she-wolves say.

"She is too hot for a maid! Brandon needs to sack her immediately or I'll give his mate a call. I'm going to talk to him," one of the she-wolves said.

"I'm calling her right away!" the other wolf said.

"Brandon and I really need to talk; something is really wrong somewhere," she whimpered. Last moon fall, he knew from all indications that she wanted him and he wanted her badly, but couldn't be with her. Probably, to be faithful to his mystery mate. It was a confirmation of what Bernard told her.

"Since he is obsessed with his mystery mate or whatever she is called, why did he always look at me as though he is in love with me?" She asked herself.

Her mind began to wander as she sat slowly at the feeding table. Everything Bernard said the first day she came to the Nightclaw estate began to replay in her mind again, even though he later told her to disregard it.

"Bernard said he would have told me what I wanted to hear if I had talked to him before signing the legal mating papers. Probably, because of his mystery mate.

Thalia thinks Brandon shouldn't have mated her. Obviously, she knew he had a mate.

Mrs. Thompson wanted her to seduce him last time. She went as far as producing an elixir that would make him sleep with her. Apparently, she knew he would never go beyond kissing her if she didn't take action.

"What will be the fate of my wolf that has advanced from mere admiration to what I can't define if what the she-wolves said is true?" She kept murmuring to herself.

She was in deep thought, she didn't notice Bernard who was setting breakfast on the table.

"Moonrise, alpha's mate."

She shuddered when she came back to reality. She thought it was Brandon. Bernard frowned his face.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm…fine…"

Five of Brandon's guards walked into the grand feeding chamber and took their positions. She tightened her face and her heartbeat increased. Brandon walked slowly towards her with a small towel hung on his shoulder. He had sweat all over his wolf. It was obvious he just came out of the gym.

She stood up as soon as he walked into the feeding chamber and ran out. She did not want to see his face and the charms buried therein, hear his soothing voice that is capable of disarming a hardened criminal and watch his smiles that wipe every anger from her heart until he tells her the truth.

She ran up the stairs without a backward glance and walked into her closet. The rain was pouring heavily outside and that made the whole place cold and calm. She closed all the windows and drew the curtains. The closet became a bit dark.

She stood behind the window as tears continued running freely down her cheeks. She hated herself for ever believing somewolf like Brandon had good intentions for her. He probably knew about Oliver and was trying everything, including adopting his gait just to take his position in her heart.

She was sniffing noisily that she didn't hear when Brandon walked into the chamber and proceeded to the closet where she stood like a statue of liberty. He leaned innocently on her back and slid his hands across her soft hips. She felt his heart beating erratically on her back. She ignored him and continued sniffing noisily. After a few minutes, she felt a bulge in between his legs, throbbing at her butt. Apparently, the fire he ignited last moon-fall was still burning in him too. He moved his hands upward and circled her waist. She unfolded his arms and pushed him away. She hated herself more for loving his touch and wanting to be lavished by him. She knew he wanted to turn her on and walk away again. "Well, I won't let that happen." She said.
