Chapter 1 - Unknown Person

Haa…! Finally… some really good herbs!

"Hmm… if I make pills from these… maybe I can sell them… Mom and I won't starve this week…" I whispered to myself, picking the leaves carefully.

Wait…!

"Who's there…?" My voice trembled a little.

From the trees… a low groan. My heart jumped into my throat. I crept closer… and froze.

A man. Lying on the ground. Blood everywhere. Clothes torn… and so fancy… like a prince or something.

I gulped. "I… I should run…" I muttered, stepping back.

But then… my stomach twisted. I couldn't leave him. Couldn't. My hands shook.

"Okay… Kael… calm down… you can… maybe… help a little," I muttered.

I grabbed some herbs. My fingers fumbled as I crushed them into small pills. "This won't… won't heal him properly… just… just a little… maybe stop the bleeding."

"Here… take… take this…" I whispered, pressing the tiny pills into his hand. He coughed, barely opening one eye.

I panicked. "Oh no… it's not enough… it's not enough…"

Then I looked around. Big leaf… maybe I can… move him? I carefully lifted him onto the leaf and started dragging him. My legs were shaking so badly I almost fell.

"Kael! You're late again!" my sister shouted from the house.

"Ahhh… she's going to kill me…" I muttered under my breath. But then she saw him… and froze.

"Who… who is this?!" she asked.

"Not now… let's just… get him inside first!" I said, dragging him into the house.

Once inside, I whispered, "Okay… just small pills… low-level… I can't do more… not yet. But maybe… maybe we can get an alchemist…"

My hands shook, but I kept working. I couldn't let him die.
