Lia's
I walked slowly back toward my house, my footsteps echoing against the pavement. The streetlights overhead were flickering and buzzing with a low hum, looking like they were about to die out at any moment. My school bag felt much heavier than it usually did, and every shadow on the sidewalk seemed to stretch out longer tonight. I could not stop thinking about Ema and everything she had told me at the school. The things she said were terrifying, and they stayed stuck in my mind. That guy I saw earlier—the one with the creepy look in his eyes—had been watching her again. I could not shake the feeling that something was deeply wrong.
Suddenly, I stopped walking.
