Chapter 26 - Chapter Twenty-Five: The Vessel of Darkness

The forest had grown too quiet.

Even the wind had stopped moving.

Kella stood beside Damon in the clearing where the possessed wolves had collapsed, the faint glow of her lunar energy slowly fading from her skin.

The freed wolves were breathing again.

Alive.

Normal.

But something deeper beneath the earth had noticed.

Damon's wolf was restless.

Violently restless.

He looked toward the deeper forest.

"The shadow is moving again."

Kella felt it too now.

Not just as a distant presence.

But like something crawling beneath the ground… searching.

Waiting.

Then suddenly—

The earth shook.

Not violently like an earthquake.

But with a slow, unnatural tremor.

The freed wolves stirred weakly.

Lyra and the other warriors were rushing toward them through the trees.

"What happened?" Lyra asked breathlessly.

Kella opened her mouth to answer.

But then she felt it.

A surge of darkness rising from deep beneath the land.

Her chest tightened.

"It's coming up."

Damon's eyes snapped toward her.

"What is?"

Before she could answer—

The ground in the center of the clearing split open.

Cracks spidered through the dirt like black lightning.

Warriors stepped back in alarm.

"What the hell—"

The earth erupted.

A thick wave of black smoke poured out of the cracked ground like living shadow.

The temperature in the clearing dropped instantly.

Kella felt her lunar power react violently.

The silver energy inside her flared again.

The darkness twisted in the air.

Condensing.

Gathering.

Forming.

Damon's voice was low and deadly.

"It's creating something."

The shadow smoke thickened into a massive swirling shape.

Bones began forming inside it.

Long.

Twisted.

Wrong.

The warriors backed away slowly.

"What is that thing?" someone whispered.

The smoke solidified into a massive wolf-like creature — but it wasn't alive.

Not fully.

Its body looked like black stone mixed with bone.

Its eyes burned with hollow darkness.

And its presence made every wolf in the clearing feel sick.

Kella staggered slightly.

"That's… the shadow."

Damon nodded grimly.

"A vessel."

The creature opened its mouth.

But instead of a roar…

The same whisper from earlier echoed through the clearing.

Balance must be corrected.

The creature stepped forward.

Every step cracked the earth beneath it.

The warriors shifted into wolf form instantly.

But Damon held up his hand.

"Stay back."

Because he knew something.

This creature wasn't made of flesh.

Normal attacks wouldn't stop it.

The shadow had created something far worse than possession.

A physical body.

The vessel turned its empty gaze toward Kella.

Its voice slithered into her mind.

Lunar child.

Kella's heart pounded.

You interfere with destiny.

Damon stepped in front of her.

"You'll have to go through me first."

The vessel tilted its head slowly.

Then it attacked.

It moved with terrifying speed.

Damon shifted instantly, his massive black wolf slamming into the creature mid-leap.

The impact thundered across the clearing.

But the vessel didn't bleed.

Instead, black smoke poured from the cracks in its body.

Damon snapped his jaws around its neck and threw it aside.

The creature hit the ground hard.

But stood up immediately.

Unharmed.

The warriors attacked next.

Five wolves lunged together.

The vessel swung one massive claw.

The shockwave alone sent them flying.

Kella's chest tightened.

"We can't fight it like this!"

Damon circled the creature carefully.

His wolf snarled, muscles tense.

He could feel the darkness inside the vessel.

It wasn't just powerful.

It was ancient.

The vessel suddenly turned toward Kella again.

Its hollow eyes glowed.

Lunar power must be extinguished.

The creature charged.

Damon moved to intercept.

But something inside Kella suddenly exploded.

Her body went rigid.

Silver light burst from her chest like a rising star.

"Kella!" Damon shouted.

But she couldn't hear him anymore.

Her vision turned white.

Her wolf… finally awakened.

Pain shot through her body as her bones began shifting.

But this transformation felt different.

Stronger.

Older.

Silver energy spiraled around her body like living moonlight.

Lyra gasped.

"She's shifting!"

But it wasn't a normal shift.

Kella's wolf form emerged slowly from the silver light.

Large.

Elegant.

Her fur shone like liquid moonlight.

And her eyes…

Glowed pure silver.

The clearing fell silent.

Even the vessel paused.

Because Kella's presence now radiated something terrifying to darkness.

Ancient lunar authority.

Damon's wolf stared at her in shock.

Not fear.

Awe.

The vessel growled.

Black smoke poured from its body as it lunged toward her again.

But Kella didn't run.

Her new wolf form stepped forward calmly.

The moonlight around her brightened.

When the vessel attacked—

She moved faster than anyone expected.

Her silver claws slashed through the creature's chest.

The moment they touched—

The vessel screamed.

Not with sound.

But with energy.

Black smoke exploded from the wound.

The creature staggered backward.

Kella realized something instantly.

"My power hurts it."

Damon growled in approval.

The vessel lunged again in rage.

This time Damon attacked with her.

Alpha and Lunar wolf moving together.

Black and silver.

Balance.

The war had changed again.

Because now the shadow had a body.

And Kella had finally become what she was meant to be.

The Lunar Wolf.

And the real battle had just begun.
