Chapter 104 - Slice-of-life

I was currently making food for Luminous.

"You really didn't have to make food you know. Neither of us need sustenance to live." Luminous was apparently fine, I guess I should stop underestimating divine beings.

"Don't you know why I do such mortal eccentricities?"

"No I do know why." Luminous explained while she came from behind and hugged me.

The reason I do something so simple as cook food despite the lack of need for sustenance or manually put on an apron despite being able to simply materialise it onto me.

The reason is that I want some semblance of a normal life. Isekai fans always dream of being truck-kun'd and live the otherworld life style. Experience magic, monsters and more.

But after awhile alot of that excitement fades away, you get older and start maturing. You start to realize that purposely throwing yourself into exciting situations. It all weighs down on your soul.

Don't get me wrong, I still love creating but that was not something born for my desire for an isekai experience but my own hobby and obsession.

After fighting multiple demon lords, creating my own children with my hands, creating my own world, becoming a god and establishing myself as one of the most major superpowers.

This feeling of normalcy and mortality feels so…

…Perfect.

Feeling the harmonious atmosphere, I began humming a song that calmed the atmosphere around us.

It calmed the atmosphere so much that Luminous had fallen asleep against my back.

I swiftly turned around and caught her slender form.

I carried her in a princess carry, her unconscious body, as if sensing a familiar presence, instinctually held on to me and tried to crawl deeper into my embrace.

I walked over to the couch to set her down and covered her up with a blanket, I turned around to tend to the food once more…

…But felt a tug on my sleeve. I turned my head back down to her sleeping figure and saw that she was holding onto my wrist.

I thought for a second before sighing and giving into her antics. I telekinetically turned off the heat on the stove and curled myself up with Luminous.

Luminous, the queen of nightmares, so proud and magnificent, who commands so much power and respect across the world.

The same Luminous was now cradled into my arms, like a child, she was yearning and seeking the families warmth that she had become so accustomed too and now couldn't fathom being without it.

I smothered Luminous with my embrace which her body responded with immediate closeness. I could feel her slow breath in the neck as she wrapped herself in my body.

I enjoyed the warmth of her body, my eyes slowly became heavier and eventually I fell asleep with the divine ancestor in my arms.

I woke up about an hour later and smelled something burning. I got up and went to the kitchen to find something both horrible and amusing.

Luminous was attempting to make food, and judging by the increasing smoke aswell as the panicked expression on Luminous's face, she was not doing too well.

I got up closer to her and leaned in closer to her ear, "It seems that you've caught yourself in a bit of trouble."

My sudden appearance didn't cause her to flinch or jump, all she did was feel a shiver run down her body. She became stunlocked for a few seconds before turning around, "Please help me."

I sighed and moved her out of the way, fixing the mess that she had created. Although she hadn't burned down the entire building, which should be impossible, the food that was in the pan was now ash.

"Sorry for almost ruining the kitchen and for actually ruining the food." Luminous's cool-headed and sincere demeanor told me she had cooled down from our date.

"Did you assume that cooking would be easier than it seemed?"

"You make it look ridiculously easy. I guess I underestimated the craft alittle." Luminous's haughty personality was showing through but there was a unmistakable guiltiness showing for ruining the new kitchen that he had created in her sanctuary.

She didn't mind him creating stuff in her home, as she mentioned before, his presence made her home both more vibrant and humane at the same time.

" You aren't completely wrong. The first and most important thing to work on in culinary science is heat control. The rest is just experimentation by throwing together what's edible until you get a cuisine that you're satisfied with."

My attempt to comfort Luminous seemed to make her more bitter, "So you're saying that I failed the first step in making food?"

I showed a strained smile as I asked my next question, "Do you… want to learn?"

My question made Luminous brighten up.

————————————————

There I spent teaching Luminous how to cook food. Some of it was the first step I mentioned, heat control.

The rest of the day, from morning until night, was filled with the second step I mentioned, experimenting with different edible items to concoct a palatable cuisine.

Frankly speaking, it was impossible to get bored as I saw the combinations of stuff that most would see as… creative.

It's been a while since I've enjoyed watching someone do something and fail multiple times.

3 pots ruined, 8 spatulas destroyed and 14 hours later and Luminous could barely mimic the biryani that I had previously made for her.

"Um could you try this?" Luminous was very timid and embarrassed at the moment. She had tried to make this to impress me but now she just wanted me to leave and not see what the tragedy Infront of me.

I took a bite which caused Luminous to shriek, "It's not bad."

"No no, it's terrible." Luminous wanted to get the plate away from me and through her calm and composure, she took the plate away from me without me even paying attention to it.

"Maybe if you were an experienced chef, then I would judge you. But for your first time, this wasn't that bad. The problems was that it's overcooked and over salted."

"Thank you." Luminous just sighed and gave up for today.

Luminous layed down and put her head down on my lap and both of us just calmed down.

The calm dissipated quickly for me as I felt a notification in my head, a radio wave from the forest of Jura that I had programmed decades ago.

This was the beacon I had given to Veldora that he was meant to set off at the arrival of a certain slime. Now that the beacon had set off, it could only mean one thing…

…Rimuru Tempest had been born.
