Chapter 39 - chapter 39: uncomfortable

you môtherfuçker" Hardin launched at Cole giving him a hard punch on his face, Cole staggered, almost falling but he didn't.

Hailey was shocked by Hardin's attitude and she glared at him.

"What's wrong with you, I don't even know you!"

Hailey yelled at Hardin.

"Don't let him anger you honey, let's go" Cole said and pulled Hailey away.

Hardin did his best to stop himself from going after them, he knew it would lead to nothing, especially with Hailey's memories gone.

He folded his palms into a fist so hard his fingers dug deep into his palms.

His phone rang and he took it out of his pocket

"Oh she's dead?"

Hardin said with an expressionless face as he turned his head away from Cole and Hailey's retreating view.

"Do something with the body" he said in anger before dropping his phone back in his pocket.

_______

"That was the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me since I woke up" Hailey said, obviously uncomfortable.

"Sorry about that, I don't know why he would do something like that, probably a psychopath" Cole replied and Hailey sighed.

She woke up in the hospital a few weeks ago, just to meet Cole, he said she had gotten into an accident and has been unconscious for weeks.

She lost her memories when she woke up according to what Cole told her.

He told her she was his fiance and they were supposed to get married soon before the accident, he also told her that her parents are dead so all she had was him.

Hailey had no choice but to believe because he was the one with her after she worked up and there was pretty much nothing she could do.

"You should take your medicines, it would be nice if you regain your memories, at least you wouldn't be so distant" Cole smiled at her as he handed her a container.

Hailey took the container from him and nodded, though she had believed Cole she was still distant with him and had refused to marry him cause she really didn't feel the connection.

Hailey took the medicine he gave her and she decided to rest, though she really couldn't get the occurrence at the beach out of her head.

Why would that man talk to her, claiming he knew her?

She decided to brush off the thoughts since her head began to hurt and she fell asleep.

________

Hailey walked around the jewelry store as she looked for something that suits her,

Cole had insisted she get herself some jewelry, though she didn't like jewelry much she agreed cause they were supposed to be engaged and he loved her.

It was wrong she didn't remember him and she felt she owed him for that.

"Shopping for jewelry?" She heard a deep voice behind her and she turned to meet the man at the beach.

"Stalking me now?" Hailey asked and Hardin Chuckled.

"If you think so" he replied and she sighed walking away but he followed.

"What do you want? The scene you created at the beach wasn't enough?" Hailey asked with a frown.

"Hailey, calm down and let's talk," Hardin said calmly.

"Who the hell is this Hailey girl, I'm Loreen" Hailey snapped with a frown and Hardin let out a harsh breath.

"Alright Loreen" he forced out the words. "Can we talk a bit?" He said and Hailey was reluctant.

She obviously wouldn't want to talk with a man who is stalking her and trying to harass her but he doesn't look like he would be stopping anytime soon.

"Okay" she said simply and Hardin smiled.

They walked out of the jewelry store to a coffee shop close by.

"Coffee?" Hardin asked.

"No" Hailey replied simply. "What do you want to say?" She asked instead.

"What did your so-called fiance say to you about your memory loss?"

Hardin asked, he knew half of it because his source told him but he didn't know everything.

"It's actually none of your concern and how did you know I lost my memory" Hailey asked with a frown.

"Because the old you would remember me, I mean the one who didn't lose her memories" Hardin said plainly.

"Cole said I had no family except him," Hailey replied.

"He lied, you don't even stay in Australia, you live in New York" Hardin said.

"How would you know that?" Hailey asked.

"You want to know how? Then stop taking whatever shit he gives you to take, do that for a few days then contact me" Hardin said and Hailey frowned.

"Why should I listen to you?".

She asked.

"Because you want your memories back," Hardin said and got up.

"If you need anything, call" Hardin said again and drop his business card on the table leaving the coffee shop.

Hailey sat there pondering, she didn't know who to believe, she let out a frustrated sigh, losing her memories sucks.

_______

"Where did you go?" Cole asked when Hailey entered the house, she was surprised to see him cause he doesn't usually come back early.

"Decided to do some sight seeing" Hailey said, she was right after all, after the talk with Hardin she walked around to think about everything.

"Urhmm okay, did you take your medicine today?" Cole asked and Hailey nodded.

He never misses the chance to remind her about her medicines.

Cole got up from the couch and walked towards her.

"Why wouldn't you just marry me even without your memories, we already fixed the date and all before your accident" Cole said, desperation in his voice.

"I don't want to marry you with a lost memory, that would be wrong, especially when I don't remember anything about us" Hailey replied.

"I don't have a problem with that," Cole said and Hailey sighed.

"I'm taking medication for my memories, though it isn't working, I think we should wait" Hailey spoke and Cole let out a frustrated breath.

"Fine" he spoke then went upstairs to his room, they don't share a room cause Hailey insisted they shouldn't. She wasn't comfortable.
