Chapter 312 - Under the Same Sky

The continent did not tremble when the gods fell silent.

There were no trumpets.

No signs in the firmament.

Only wind.

Lusian sat atop a low hill, far from the Mother Tree, far from the invisible Thrones. The grass bent gently around him, and the night—his night—stretched like a calm mantle over the horizon.

It was no longer dense.

No longer a threat.

It was a roof.

In the distance, scattered lights marked settlements that had once lived in fear of divine intervention. Now they shone without knowing exactly why the air felt different.

He did.

He heard footsteps.

He did not turn.

The Demon Queen sat beside him without announcement. Her presence did not disturb the balance of the world.

It completed it.

The wind played with her dark hair, and for a moment they simply looked at the same horizon.

No strategy.

No war.

No calculation.

Only earth.

A small weight settled against his side.

The young guardian, overcome by sleep, had curled up beside him as if it were the most natural thing in the world. A small hand clutched the fabric of his clothes.

Lusian looked down.

For a second—just one—he was not the Throne of Darkness.

He was a man holding what he had chosen to protect.

The Demon Queen rested her head on his shoulder.

"Is it over?" she asked softly.

Lusian looked at the sky.

No longer cracked.

No longer distant.

Just sky.

"No," he answered calmly. "Now it begins."

Darkness closed around them.

Not like a prison.

Like home.
