Chapter 47 - Moving in

"Dragons? Those are long gone aren't they?" Faralda asked with a frown.

"There's a few left hidden about the world but most are indeed long since gone. They won't stay that way though." I said seriously.

"What do you mean?" Savos asked curiously.

"Dragons aren't like us mortals. When their bodies are killed by anything not another dragon their souls go dormant but don't leave Nirn. Technically they aren't even fully dead but in a sort of in between state. There is only a single way for them to be revived as far as I know. The first dragon, Alduin has that power. And that ominous black nightmare has a prophecy about his return." I say gravely.

"How do you know this?" Savos asked intrigued.

I expected this question and opened the rift to my pocket of oblivion and took out several books about the subject I'd collected for just such an occasion. I set them on a nearby reading desk that had a half burnt out candle on it.

"It's all here more or less. You might recognize the signs spoken of. I did and that's why I chose that enchantment, preparation." I said seriously.

Savos looks like he is doubtful but starts reading the tomes I provided all the same and quickly loses that expression in exchange for one of concern.

"This is all very concerning. This last dragonborn character, is there any way to learn who they are before the apportioned time? To train them for it of course." he asked seriously.

I shook my head "None that I know of. The Graybeards may know more as they have dealt with many of the dragon blooded before." I say honestly.

I had seriously looked but there was no definite features to look for to determine who was dragonborn or not. They were all great leaders in some way and tended to be exceptional in various regards but that wasn't exactly limited to just them. All I could find about the last dragonborn was that they'd be revealed upon Alduin's return to stand against his threat and either fall ending the world or succeed in saving it.-

"I see. You wish to stand against the dragons when they return I take it then?" Faralda asked and I nodded.

"So long as you don't endanger the college or your fellow mages here the college will not stop you from whatever it is you intend to do in preparation. Now then I do believe we've gotten off track. What purpose brought you here originally?" savos said changing the subject back.

It felt almost like a dismissal of my concerns regarding the dragons return but he was the Arch-mage so I didn't point it out.

"Alexan came to study here at the college officially. We are unfortunately in the middle of the year however so he is too late for the usual entry date and too early for the next." Faralda explained.

"Ah, a small matter. I'll have Mirabel add him to the roster. For now you can show him to an open quarters area in the hall of attainment and explain how the lectures work yes?" he said waving it off easily.

"Of course." Faralda said before leading me away.

"Are we not going to talk about how he had a daedric prince in his office?" I asked quietly once we were back in the Arcanaeum.

"Come now surely you must understand that for most conjurers dealing with a prince is more a question of when than if? The Arch-mage is a master conjurer and deals primarily with Mephala due to her favor of the Dunmer people. I assure you he is quite careful in his deals, usually that is." she said assuringly.

I wanted to believe her but that was a whole ass daedric prince we are talking about, not exactly friendly entities most the time. Still I kept my doubts to myself as I was led back down the stairs and out onto the courtyard. From there Faralda brought me to the door of the leftmost tower. We went in and she introduced the place to me.

"This is the hall of attainment, you'll be living here for as long as you remain at the college. The space is shared between all students of the college so any spells or experiments you conduct should be done with them in mind as a courtesy." she said before walking over to a small doorless "room" with a bed, a desk with a chair and a closet. "This spot is yours, decorate it however you like but try not to leave anything overly valuable just lying about." she said calmly.

"What about the lectures?" I asked.

"Hmm? Oh right. The college is a bit different than most forms of education. Here we promote scholarly freedom above all else, within reason of course. The masters willing to teach post a schedule and any interested students may choose to join or not at their leisure. The Arcanaeum is also almost fully open for your research but most books can't be taken out of it and if you get caught mistreating the books, well you saw the atronachs." she said casually.

"I get it. Success or failure is left entirely on the students and can't be blamed on the teachers in this case." I said understanding it easily.

"Precisely. Now then I should return to my post at the bridge lest someone foolish think they have an opportunity to cause trouble here." she said before turning and leaving.

As she left me just standing there outside this "room" I couldn't help but chuckle. She hadn't changed at all from before, no hand holding at all. I didn't waste time though and immediately got to work sprucing the place up. Took out my enchanting plate and set it on the desk, swapped out the entire set of bedding for my personal set that I spent good money on. -

It was a mattress that would rest on the wooden frame of any bed that was made of a massive amount of cotton wrapping in linen, honestly might as well have called it a big ass pillow. The best part was that I enchanted the thing to be not only auto fluffed and cleaned when you got off it but also constantly warm. This was also the third iteration of the idea since the first two burst into flames after I made the enchantment too strong. Warm, not hot, very important distinction apparently. On top of that was an actual feather pillow and an emerald green silk quilt, my favorite color.-

Then I started to fill the closet with my outfits. Nothing fancy here really, mostly pants and shirts with a single green tuxedo that cost a frankly absurd amount of money despite only being cotton. Something about not having Sheogorath show up asking for reparations. Made no sense to me but wherever that mad god was things rarely did so I rolled with the punches. Finally I took out my alchemy set and got it all set up and ready for use.
