"So you intend to claim this ruin for your own?" Alontar asked surprised.
"Absolutely not!" I rejected that idea immediately.
"Now i'm terribly lost. You just said you could put the animunculi to work guarding this place." he said confused.
"I COULD do that. Not that I was going to. As much as I'm sure Hammerfell is a lovely place to set up shop I'm rather fond of Skyrim. No I plan to finish constructing this thing without it's core before storing it away for when I actually do set up a workspace in Skyrim. The same goes for the rest of this." I said motioning at the parts and tools.
"So you are just going to take everything to relocate to a new workspace eventually?" he asked for clarity.
"That's the idea. This place is nearly perfect but has the distinct issue of being in the wrong province. Otherwise I definitely would claim it." I said with a helpless shrug.
"I understand the Thalmor are an issue but why other than that are you in such a hurry to return to Skyrim? Don't tell me you are so attached to the land?" he asked a little speechlessly.
"Not particularly no. The problem is that I have good reason to believe a certain ancient prophecy is soon to play out and Skyrim will be at it's heart. The return of Alduin, the world eater." I said gravely.
"I'm sorry, who?" he asked confused.
"The first dragon? Big, black, spikey, enslaved everyone back in the Merethic era? Any of this ringing any bells?" I said dumbfounded.
"Afraid not." he said helplessly.
"What in oblivion is with people and not keeping track of important information!? Okay so to explain WHY this is important. Back during the Dawn era some of the spirits still down here on Nirn, at least as far as I understand it, ate pieces of Akatosh while he was weak from the creation of the world. This might not be true but regardless those spirits became dragons. The first who was also the strongest was Alduin. His purpose was literally to end the world so the next could begin. He didn't do that however. Instead he and all the other dragons went on to enslave all the mortal races as overlords. There was a rebellion obviously after Kyne blessed the mortal races with the ability to speak words of power like the dragons can innately, but through training." I pause to let that sink in.
"Alduin's right hand general Paarthurnax, took compassion for the plight of the mortal races and betrayed Alduin to teach the Thu'um to what would become the first tongues. Not exactly putting the mortals on the same level as dragons but close enough to fight and "kill" them. I emphasize that word because a dragons soul can only be killed truly by either another dragon, a dragonborn, a god or a method I only theorized." I said taking a breath.
"Killing their body ends their threat but isn't necessarily permanent. Alduin possesses the power to take their dormant souls and restore them to life and flesh. During the rebellion there was a dragonborn, considered the first in fact, who rebelled against the dragons but not to defeat Alduin like should have been his duty. He wanted to replace Alduin as the new ruler of both mortals and dragons. Ironically both Alduin and he were banished from Nirn though only one was guaranteed to return, Alduin. The first dragon was cast adrift on the currents of time through the use of an elder scroll." I pause again to let it sink in.
"This saved mortalkind at the time but made it the futures problem. So a prophecy was made using another elder scroll. "When misrule takes it's place at the eight corners of the world. When the brass tower walks and Time is reshaped. When the thrice blessed fail and the Red Tower trembles. When the Dragonborn ruler loses his throne, and the white tower falls. When the Snow tower lies sundered, kingless, bleeding. The World-eater wakes, and the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn." That is the full prophecy. The conditions for the return of the World-eater." I finish solemnly.
"The war of three, the Numidium, the tribunals failure and the destruction of the heart by the Nerevarinne, the end of the Septim line, the sacking of the imperial capital, and something to do with Skyrim. Sundered, kingless, bleeding. Skyrim has a king, hasn't been broken and isn't bleeding. The final condition hasn't been fulfilled." he said with a pale face.
"Yet. All the other conditions have been completed. Skyrim is seething internally. Split into two factions roughly. Those who believe in the empire still and those who don't anymore. Sundered, divided. Same end. All that's missing is the death of the king and a war. One of those I can't stop. The other I have already laid the groundwork for being less bloody. It's no longer a matter of if the World-eater will return, but when." I said frankly.
"Are you? Dragonborn I mean? Is there any way to know?" he asked quietly.
"I am not. I tested for it. As far as I understand the last Dragonborn will be revealed only upon the return of Alduin as they are fated to clash and the victor will either end the world or save it." I say honestly.
"That's why you want to return to Skyrim so badly. You want to save it from the dragons return. Or at least lessen the impact until this Dragonborn can do it." he said understanding my reason finally.
"Ironic isn't it? That I am accumulating power not because I want it but because it is needed. There is no telling if the last Dragonborn will be a good person, a bad one or someone firmly in the middle. If they aren't good and defeat Alduin they might be nearly unstoppable. That is a god we are talking about after all. Minor though he might be. Alduin represents the end of time itself. I don't want to be helpless in the face of either Alduin or the last Dragonborn. Even if i can't win, I'll make them work for it." I say firmly.
