Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Shattered Mirror

**Chapter 37: Shattered Mirror**

The mansion's wards flared at 3:17 a.m.—sharp, sudden, like a glass pane cracking under pressure.

Lin Chen woke instantly—shadows already coiling around the bed. Beside him, Su Wanqing sat up—silver mark glowing bright enough to illuminate the room in soft light.

The link pulsed—urgent, fractured.

Lan.

They moved—barefoot, silent—down the hallway toward her room.

The door stood ajar.

Inside—Lan sat upright in bed, knees drawn to chest, eyes wide open but unfocused. Shadows around her twisted violently—black laced with pale frost-white veins. The air in the room dropped ten degrees in seconds; breath fogged.

Jian was already there—clones surrounding the bed in a protective ring, dagger drawn. Mei knelt beside Lan—hand on her forehead, healing yin pouring steadily, but the frost kept pushing back.

Lan's voice came out small, trembling.

"It's… talking again. But not like before. It's showing me… a mirror. I see myself breaking. All of you… turning away. Saying I'm not worth saving."

Lin Chen knelt in front of her—hands gently taking hers.

"Look at me. Not the mirror. Me."

Lan's eyes shifted—focusing on him—then flicked away.

"I see it… in the reflection. You're all leaving. Because I'm too much. Too weak. Too broken."

The frost veins thickened—spreading from her shadows up her arms.

Su Wanqing knelt beside Lin Chen—silver qi flowing through their joined hands into Lan.

"That's not us. That's them. They're using the bleed-through against you. They want you to doubt the bond so much you pull away yourself."

Mei's voice was calm but urgent.

"The Reapers aren't attacking the mansion. They're attacking her mind. Through the link. The deeper we merge… the more they can reach."

Jian's clones tightened—forming a second layer.

"Then we break their connection. Now."

Lin Chen shook his head.

"No. We don't break. We reinforce. We merge—right here, right now. Longer than before. We show her—and them—that she's not alone. She's essential."

Lan's breath hitched—frost creeping toward her heart.

"I… can't… it hurts…"

Lin Chen pressed his forehead to hers—link at maximum.

"You don't have to do it alone. We do it together."

He looked at the others.

"Circle. Now."

They moved—fast, instinctive.

Five bodies formed the pentagon around Lan's bed—hands linking, knees touching the mattress edge.

Lin Xue stepped inside the door—Nascent Soul aura flaring—blocking external interference.

"Begin."

No chant. No crystals. Just the five of them—and the bond.

"Breathe."

Inhale.

Exhale.

The cycle started—stronger than any previous session.

Emotions flooded—raw, unfiltered.

Lin Chen's protectiveness—fierce, unwavering.

Su Wanqing's love—warm, endless.

Mei's wisdom—quiet, grounding.

Jian's loyalty—steady, unshakable.

Lan's fear—bright, honest, vulnerable.

They didn't push it away.

They held it.

Shared it.

The frost veins slowed—fighting the tide of unity.

Lan's voice—small, breaking.

"I see it… the mirror again. But now… you're all there. Holding me. Not leaving."

The frost cracked—thin lines spreading.

Lin Chen spoke—voice echoing through the link.

"You are not weak. You are the spark that kept us fighting. You are the reason we bound ourselves. You are Shadow Yin. You are ours."

The others echoed—five voices as one.

"Ours."

The frost veins shattered—ice turning to harmless mist.

Lan exhaled—long, shuddering.

The shadows around her cleared—pure black, bright, strong.

She opened her eyes—gold flecks shining.

"It's gone. Really gone."

Tears fell—but different this time. Relief. Gratitude.

Lin Chen pulled her into his arms—family closing in around them.

A circle—five bodies, one heartbeat.

Lin Xue watched from the doorway—quiet pride in her eyes.

"The Reapers failed. The bond held. Stronger now."

Lan whispered against Lin Chen's shoulder.

"I felt you. All of you. Inside me. It wasn't scary. It was… home."

Su Wanqing smiled—tears in her own eyes.

"That's stage three. That's us."

Jian ruffled Lan's hair gently.

"No more weak link. Just us."

Mei placed a hand on Lan's back.

"Rest now. Tomorrow—we push further. Longer merge. Until the bond is unbreakable."

Lin Chen helped Lan lie back—tucking the blanket around her.

"Sleep. We're right here."

Lan's eyes closed—smile soft.

"I know."

The room quieted.

But outside—across the city—three frost-gray figures retreated to a rooftop.

The lead Reaper lowered his hood—face pale, eyes cold.

"They purged the doubt. The bond hardened."

Another spoke—voice low.

"The elder won't be pleased. But we learned something."

The third nodded.

"The youngest is their heart. Break her… break them."

They vanished into frost mist.

Dawn crept over Shanghai.

The clan rested—for now.

But the Reapers were already planning the next strike.

And somewhere deeper—below the Core—an ancient presence stirred again.

Watching.

Waiting.

The union grew.

So did the shadows that feared it.
