"Hmm, I suck at this," Henry muttered, looking down at his cards. He had been losing badly.
"That's why you need to have good hands, Henry," Dean said, checking his own cards with a satisfied grin.
Ash was sitting beside them as the third player, while Sam had decided not to join. He just sat there watching the game, still unable to understand how these idiots had decided that playing cards was a reasonable thing to do in a cabin covered in blood.
"Yeah, I win again," Dean said, putting his cards down.
"Shit, I lost again," Henry muttered, throwing his cards onto the table.
Dean held out his hand.
Henry looked at it. "What the hell?"
"Your blade, duh."
Henry stared at Dean's hand, then at him. He had only agreed to give Dean his angel blade if Dean won, but he hadn't expected the bastard to keep winning round after round.
"Fine, fine. No need to rub it in. It's temporary."
Henry reached inside his jacket, pulled out the angel blade, and handed it to Dean.
Dean took it with a grin. "Pleasure doing business."
Before Henry could answer, the cabin door suddenly opened.
"Dad! Surprise!"
Everyone inside stopped. Dean, Sam, and Henry immediately looked toward Ash.
Ash stared back at them. "No."
The four people standing in the doorway froze as they took in the scene inside the cabin.
Blood was smeared across the wooden walls and floor, furniture was overturned, and in the middle of it all sat four strange men who looked like they'd just survived a war.
The visitors slowly looked around, eyes moving from the blood, to the damaged cabin, then to Dean holding a strange blade.
An uncomfortable silence filled the room.
Henry, Dean, and Sam looked at Ash again.
Ash slowly raised both hands. "I swear, they're not with me."
Dean glanced at him. "Really?"
"I've never seen these guys before tonight."
Sam looked toward the woman who had called out for her father. "Uh... hi."
Nobody answered. The four people standing in the doorway just stared at the blood covering the floor and walls.
Henry slowly stood up and raised his hands slightly. "Okay, before anybody starts screaming and runs into—"
One of the women suddenly screamed, "AHHHHH!" and spun around before running straight into the woods.
"Jennie!" one of the men shouted as he immediately went after her.
Henry stared toward the trees and shook his head. "Yeah, that's a bad idea."
Sam stepped toward the doorway. "Stop! It's dangerous out there!"
The man who'd stayed pulled a revolver from his jacket. "Stay where you are! Don't move!"
Dean reached for his gun. "Easy! Nobody's trying to hurt you."
The man kept the revolver trained on them. "Where's my dad? What did you do to him?"
Henry kept both hands visible. "We didn't do anything to your father. Just lower the gun."
The revolver shifted toward Henry. "Don't move!"
Henry stared at the weapon. "Okay, but before you point that thing at me, you should know you're not the only guy here carrying."
Dean and Sam drew their guns and aimed them at the man.
Dean kept his voice steady. "Put the gun down. Nobody needs to get shot."
The man looked between the three weapons, breathing heavily. "Where's my dad?"
Ash shook his head. "We don't know who your dad is. I was already here when these guys showed up."
Another scream suddenly came from the woods.
"AAAAAAHHHH!"
Everyone froze and looked toward the trees.
"Jennie!" the man shouted as he turned toward the darkness.
He started forward, but Sam grabbed his arm. "Wait!"
"Let me go!"
"You run out there alone, you're going to get yourself killed!"
A second scream echoed through the forest, louder than before. "HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!"
The man's face went pale as he stared into the darkness.
A loud crash came from somewhere between the trees, followed by another terrified scream that suddenly cut off.
"AHHH—!"
The cabin fell silent.
Dean slowly lowered his gun without holstering it. "Okay, that's definitely not good."
The man stared into the woods, his breathing becoming faster. "What the hell is out there?"
Henry grabbed the man by the arm and pulled him back inside. He then caught the woman by the shoulder and pulled her in as well before shutting the cabin door.
"What about my friends out there?" the woman asked, her voice shaking.
"Yeah, why did you stop us?" the man demanded, still staring toward the door.
Henry looked between them. "Because they're probably already dead."
The woman stared at him in disbelief. "What?"
Henry kept his voice steady. "You all made a big mistake coming here. There are things in these woods that can tear you apart, and that scream you just heard means your friend is probably already dead."
The man shook his head. "So you expect us to believe that? You guys show up in our cabin, you're covered in blood, and now you're telling us there are monsters in the woods?" He pointed toward Henry. "You think we're idiots?"
Henry shook his head. "No. I think you're scared and you're looking for a normal explanation. Unfortunately, there isn't one."
The woman looked toward the cabin door as another strange noise came from the woods.
Dean stepped closer, keeping his gun lowered but ready. "He's not kidding. Whatever's out there, you don't want to meet it."
