Selene felt the pulse before she reached the final stair.
The deeper she walked into the tower, the heavier the air became. It pressed against her chest like the building itself was breathing slowly beneath her feet.
The corrupted blood inside her stirred uneasily.
That alone was enough to anger her.

But now it reacted on its own.
That meant something below the tower was strong enough to disturb it.
Her footsteps echoed along the final corridor.
At the end of it stood the stone doors leading to the forbidden chamber.
Two elite guards stood in front of the entrance.
Their armor carried the crest of the Blood Council itself.
They were not ordinary soldiers.
Even they looked uneasy tonight.
One of them lowered his head respectfully.
"My lady Selene. The inner circle has issued strict orders. No one may enter the chamber tonight."
