Kiara and Maeve walked down the street arm in arm. The peace the moment offered wasn't much, but at least it helped dispel the stress from the chaos earlier.
Neither of them spoke at first. The rhythm of their steps, the distant hum of passing cars, created a necessary quiet. After everything that had happened, words seemed too heavy, too demanding.
It was Maeve who finally broke the silence.
"You okay?" she asked softly, tilting her head slightly to catch Kiara's expression.
Kiara let out a slow sigh, her gaze fixed ahead. "I don't know," she admitted. "Everything just feels… too much." She paused, then added with a faint smile, "Like I woke up and my life decided to run faster than I can keep up with."
Maeve hummed in understanding, tightening her hold around Kiara's arm. "That sounds about right," she said lightly. "But hey, at least you should be happy that two men fought over you."
