The door clicked softly behind them, shutting out the city's bustle. Eliana sank into the sofa, tugging the throw around her shoulders. The house was quiet, warm, and comforting — the perfect little bubble for just the two of them.
He followed, carrying a small tray with two cups of tea. "I thought you might want this," he said, placing it on the table in front of her. His voice was calm, but there was a softness to it that made her chest flutter.
"You made tea?" she asked, a teasing note in her voice as she accepted the cup.
"I thought it might be appreciated," he replied, giving her a faint, almost mischievous smile.
Eliana sipped, letting her eyes linger on him. "You're full of surprises. Calm, polite… and now domestic. Should I be impressed?"
"Perhaps," he said lightly. "Or perhaps I'm just efficient."
Before she could answer, the door opened again, and two familiar figures stepped in.
"Well, well," a smooth voice called. "Look at the black sheep of the family, finally settling down."
Eliana looked up and saw his cousin, a tall, handsome young man with an easy grin, leaning casually against the doorway. He had the kind of charm that made people instantly like him, and his eyes twinkled with playful mischief.
Behind him came his sister, elegant and warm, with a soft smile that immediately put Eliana at ease. "So this is the famous sister-in-law I've heard about," she said, extending a hand.
Eliana stood quickly, smiling. "It's a pleasure to meet you," she said, shaking her hand firmly.
His cousin strutted forward slightly, giving Eliana a quick once-over, still grinning. "You clean up nicely. I was expecting someone… more intimidating."
Eliana laughed, feeling a flush of warmth. "I intimidate in other ways," she said playfully.
He chuckled, clearly entertained. "I'll keep that in mind."
The sister stepped closer, still smiling warmly. "He's lucky to have you," she said softly. "And so are we, I suppose."
He finally moved to sit on the arm of the sofa, watching her interactions quietly. She noticed the faint curve of his lips, the calm amusement in his eyes. Even with family around, he remained composed, though the warmth in his gaze was unmistakable.
"Tea?" he asked, turning toward the cousin and sister. "I made plenty."
"Perfect," the cousin said, grinning. "You didn't have to, but I'll never say no to tea."
The four of them settled into a comfortable, playful rhythm. Eliana sipped her tea, enjoying the small teasing, the subtle glances, the warmth of being included. She leaned back slightly, letting herself enjoy the scene — a quiet evening, soft laughter, and a small spark of romantic tension lingering between her and him.
He reached out, brushing her hand lightly with his fingers. She didn't pull away. Their eyes met, a shared smile passing between them. For a few moments, nothing else mattered — just the soft warmth of family, playful banter, and the quiet pull of something neither of them were ready to name yet.
And as the cousin teased him again about being the "black sheep," Eliana couldn't help but think, a mischievous smile forming: This family is dangerous… but in a fun way.
