Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: Dean's Performance

Shane's Ford Explorer followed the Winchester brothers' Impala to Indianapolis to find Amanda Walker. When they first set out, Shane thought Indianapolis was in Pennsylvania too. Only halfway there did he realize Indianapolis was in Indiana, with the entire state of Ohio separating the two.

Driving non-stop, making good time before dark would be fast enough. No wonder Sam had only said they would "try."

Leaving in the morning and stopping only for drivers but not the cars, they finally arrived at the Indianapolis airport just before 8:00 PM.

The group entered the airport and discovered Amanda Walker's flight would begin boarding within thirty minutes. Sam still hadn't been able to get through to her phone.

"Looks like there's still a chance. We need a phone."

Dean looked around and quickly found a dedicated airport courtesy phone in the waiting area.

"Airport Service."

"Hello, Gate 13, please."

"Who are you looking for?"

"I'm looking for Amanda Walker. She's a flight attendant, um... Flight [Number]."

The call was put on hold. Dozens of seconds later.

"Hello, this is Amanda Walker."

An anxiously waiting Dean immediately spoke up: "Hello, I'm a doctor from St. Francis Hospital, neurology department. We have a patient here, Karen Walker..."

"Karen?"

"The situation isn't critical. It was just a minor car accident, but she suffered some injuries, so..."

"Wait, that's impossible. I just spoke to her on the phone."

"When?"

"Five minutes ago. She's at home, studying for an exam. You... who is this?"

"Then perhaps there's been a mistake."

"How do you know I'm here? Are you a friend of Vince?"

"You guessed it."

"Wow, that's unbelievable."

"He really feels sorry about you."

"Please tell him to worry about himself first and stay out of my life, okay?"

"Okay, but he really wants to see you tonight, so..."

"No, sorry. It's too late."

"Don't be like that, please. The guy is a mess right now. It's pathetic."

"Really?"

"Really."

"Listen, I have to go. Tell him to call me after I land."

"No, wait, Amanda, Amanda..."

The phone went to a busy signal. Dean hung up helplessly.

Shane and the others gathered around him, witnessing the changes in his expression throughout the call and his ability to bullshit.

Karen Walker was Amanda Walker's relative. He originally wanted to use this to trick Amanda into not boarding. As luck would have it, she had just finished a call with Karen, so the lie was exposed. Amanda mentioned a name, and Dean climbed up the stick, lying about being a friend of that person. He spoke so convincingly that he actually made Amanda consider changing her mind and forgiving the guy. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to meet Amanda in person, otherwise, Dean might have actually pulled it off.

It had to be said, Dean's ability to adapt to changes and talk nonsense with a straight face was indeed strong. He also had nerves of steel. No wonder this guy could travel everywhere using various fake IDs to assume different identities and investigate cases. If Shane didn't know the inside story, he probably would have believed it too.

Dean was a bit annoyed. "Dammit, I almost had it."

Sam said helplessly, "Alright, looks like we have to go with Plan B. We have to get on that plane."

Hearing this, Dean's expression instantly changed. "Wait."

"Dean, that plane is carrying over a hundred passengers. If our guess is right, that plane is going to crash!" Sam lowered his voice.

"I know."

"Then it's decided. We take that plane, find the demon, and destroy it."

"Wait."

Just as Sam finished speaking, he was stopped again. This time it wasn't Dean, but Shane.

Shane looked at Dean, whose face was pale and expression extremely unnatural, and chuckled. "Sam, do you know why Dean drives everywhere?"

Sam paused and shook his head.

"Because he has a phobia of flying."

"What?"

Sam looked at Dean, whose eyes were dodging, in surprise. "Really? You're afraid of flying? You're joking, right?"

"Okay, I do have a fear of flying. Look at me, do I look like I'm joking?" Dean confessed helplessly. For a "real man" like him who thought he could do anything, a phobia of flying was indeed hard to mention.

Shane spread his hands at Dean. "You have two choices now: One, stay here and watch the car until we get back. Two, get on the plane with us. Hurry up and choose, so we can buy tickets."

Dean was in a difficult spot. He was truly terrified of flying. But not following them, he wouldn't be at ease about Sam. In the end, his "brother complex" attribute outweighed his fear of flying, and he helplessly chose to board the plane with them.

Half an hour later.

Mid-air, on the plane.

Olivia was against the window, Anna next to her, Shane next to Anna. Across the aisle, Dean sat stiffly, looking solemn as he stared at a newspaper he had flipped through several times but hadn't absorbed a word of. Next to Dean, Sam looked at his nervous brother with a knowing smile.

Dean, feeling out of place, put down the newspaper and turned to look at the somewhat strange Shane. "You wear sunglasses on a plane?"

"I'm afraid I'll scare you if I don't." Shane lifted the sunglasses slightly. The pale white pupils made the corner of Dean's mouth twitch.

He asked curiously in a low voice, "Those eyes of yours, what's the use?"

"Perspective." (X-Ray vision).

"Perspective?" Dean's eyes lit up. "So, what do you see?"

Under the Byakugan, there were no blind spots in three hundred and sixty degrees. The entire plane was in Shane's view. For example, behind him, a long-haired woman with a ponytail wearing a red flight attendant uniform was organizing the meal cart. This woman was the Amanda Walker Shane was looking for.
