Chapter 12 - a luna’s shadow.

"So, here we have the main hall, where everyone gathers and where new pack members and important guests are greeted by Alpha Alex, Beta Raphael, Gamma Charles, and the omega staff," Liora explained to Priscilla.

Priscilla walked beside Liora as she took in the grand architecture of the pack house. She took note of the gold curtains and black marble design. It was vastly different from the Fairy Palace, but not in a bad way. Even though both places were grand and held high ranking members, she felt less anxious here. She wondered if it was because people were actually treated decently here.

"Here, we have the main dining hall. This is where omega staff and anyone that stays in the pack house can convene and eat. But Alpha and the others rarely eat down here."

Priscilla eyed the long rectangular table that was covered in a white sheet and decorated with silver cutlery and various sized plates and glasses. The chairs had cushions and there was a large window that showed the driveway and courtyard.

"Why doesn't Alpha Alex eat down here?" Priscilla asked.

Liora looked at Priscilla with a smile before answering, "Well, you see… the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and any influential guests usually discuss important matters over dinner. Eating with the omega staff would be too noisy and too invasive. Plus, Alpha Alex is pretty popular with the ladies. I don't think Alpha could finish a single bite without she-wolves fighting for his attention."

Liora chuckled at her statement but Priscilla was not amused. Her chest tightened at the thought of Alpha Alex surrounded by other women. It didn't make sense. It's not like he was her's. So why did it feel like something was being taken from her? Priscilla decided to examine these feelings later.

Liora caught Priscilla's quiet and deflated demeanor and decided to pry just a little.

"So how did you and the Alpha meet?"

Priscilla internally froze at the question and didn't know if she should be honest or lie. Alpha Alex did say he trusted Liora so maybe she should too.

"Alpha Alex met me when I served him and Beta Raphael and Gamma Charles at the Fairy Palace. After that, he brought me here. I'm very thankful to him," Priscilla answered.

Liora looked confused at this. She wondered why Alpha Alex went so far as to bring a servant back to the pack house. It wasn't like they were short on staff. And why would Priscilla be thankful?

"Fairy Palace you say? What is that like?" Liora asked.

Priscilla stopped walking and looked at the floor solemnly. Liora noticed Priscilla stopped walking and turned back to look at her dejected mood. Liora furrowed her brows and wondered if she overstepped.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," Liora reassured.

"No. It's okay. The Fairy Palace is wonderful and grand and festive. But, I was a servant so I didn't get to experience much of the positives…" Priscilla murmured.

Liora looked at Priscilla with compassion. They were faint but she noticed the young fairy woman had bruises on her arms and on her left cheek. It was clear that Priscilla had faced abuse. Liora walked up to Priscilla and put her hand on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience in your own home. But things here are safer and we are a family. Our Alpha is good and he will treat you with care and respect."

Priscilla looked up at Liora who was smiling brightly at her. She thought to herself how Liora was very kind and easy to be around. Plus, she was the first woman that didn't talk down to her. Priscilla was thankful and smiled back and they continued walking.

"Here we have the kitchen where the omega staff cooks our breakfast, lunch, dinner, and any snack requests you may have. The food is good because ohr Alpha is extremely picky."

Liora showed Priscilla the medical wing where she works and treats minor injuries and conditions, the lounge where staff and guests can relax, the small library nook where pack house members can read and do work, and the housing quarters for the omega staff.

Priscilla's eyes were wide the whole time. None of these rooms were unfamiliar to her since they were also at the palace. But, seeing staff and servants sit and eat and relax was foreign to her. Relaxing usually resulted in punishment at the palace.

"What are your thoughts so far?" Liora asked as she chuckled looking at how mesmerized Priscilla looked.

It took Priscila a few seconds to realize she was asked a question.

"All of this is amazing. It feels…safe."

Liora gave an enthusiastic nod and proceeded to show Priscilla the second floor of the pack house. They climbed the wide set stairs that winded upwards. Maroon colored carpet covered every step and Priscilla felt like royalty for the first time in her life.

"The second floor is mainly where Beta Raphael and Gamma Charles stay. They hold war meetings with the Alpha here and they train in a private facility on this floor."

Priscilla blinked rapidly before asking, "War meetings?"

"Yeah! We are one of the biggest and strongest packs in the North. We have many allies but also many enemies. People waiting for Alpha Alex to make just one mistake."

Liora saw fear cover Priscilla's face and quickly further explained, "But not just war. They also convene to discuss the pack and ways they can improve everyone's safety and resources here."

"Oh." Priscilla said as her face softened.

"On this floor is also where high ranking guests stay and the private dining hall where Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and important guests eat and discuss business."

Priscilla was amazed at how everything was separated yet still felt like a community. This was the first time ever in her life that she felt excited to call somewhere 'home'.

"Omega staff aren't usually allowed up here unless personally requested by Beta or Gamma," Liora explained.

"So then why am I allowed up here?" Priscilla asked innocently.

Liora cocked her head at Priscilla's question and took a moment before responding, "Well, Alpha wants you to see every floor of the pack house. He usually doesn't do elaborate grand tours for new omega staff… But, it seems to me that you are very important to him."

Liora studied her for a second longer than before. Priscilla felt heat rise to her cheeks and looked to the side in embarrassment. Liora giggled at Priscilla's modesty. It was a shame that such a sweet girl had experienced years of mistreatment, Liora thought.

"Come on, let's go to the top floor," Liora exclaimed.

Liora and Priscilla walked up another flight of stairs that eventually led to the third and highest floor.

"This is the third floor! Alpha Alex stays here and his personal study is on this floor too. If you need to ask him anything, this is where you can find him."

Priscilla wondered when Alex would be finished with his meeting. She couldn't wait to tell him all the exciting things she learned on her grand tour. Just as Liora started to walk back down stairs, Priscilla saw two extra rooms down the hallway.

"Liora, what are those two rooms for?"

Liora looked back to see the two vacant rooms right next to Alpha Alex's bedroom.

"Oh! Those rooms are for our future Luna."

Priscilla had heard that word before… 'Luna'. She suddenly remembered that that was why Alex had come to the Fairy Palace. To find his Luna. Priscilla's heart sank but her face remained neutral.

Liora and Priscilla made their way down the stairs when they heard Alpha Alex's voice.

"Princess Marissa, please refrain from grabbing me," Alex spoke in the distance.

Liora and Priscilla stopped dead in their tracks at the sight of a beautiful brunette woman hugging their Alpha smittenly.

"Alex, don't be that way. After all, we'll be doing much more than hugging when I become your Luna," Princess Marissa spoke.

Alex furrowed his brows in annoyance and was about to tell her off until he spotted two figures in the corner of his eyes. He turned his head to see Liora and Priscilla. He froze and immediately looked at Priscilla. She quickly looked away from Alex and pulled on Liora's sleeve.

"Can we go please?" Priscilla asked, fighting back tears. She didn't look at him again.

Alex froze for a second. Then his expression hardened.

Liora took a moment to snap out of the trance she was in and nodded.

Alex's wolf growled at him with disgust.

How dare you let this woman touch you! She is not our mate!

Alex took a deep breath, calming himself down and spoke in an icy tone, "Unhand me Marissa or else I will show you what happens to people who invade an Alpha's personal space."

Princess Marissa was taken aback. She slowly unraveled her arms from around Alex's and frowned at his disinterest in her. She wondered why he was rejecting her all of a sudden, especially seeing how they slept together just last week!

"Why are you-"

Marissa didn't get to finish her sentence. Alex proceeded to briskly walk past her. All he could think about was the look on Priscilla's face. He had to find her. Now.
