POV: Nova
The word died in Nova's throat before it left her lips.
Not from the curse the curse hadn't activated, not yet, because she hadn't actually spoken. Something else had stopped her. A sound. Coming from outside the tall ballroom windows, from the direction of the Enchanted Woods, rising above the Solstice wind.
Three howls. Distinct and separate and unmistakable. One deep, one mid, one high.
Orion. Finn. Ash.
They were warning her.
Her open mouth closed. Her heart slammed once, hard, against her ribs. The silver light around her spiked and then steadied, and she understood her brothers had felt her through the thread, felt her about to speak, felt the curse coiling to strike, and they had howled to stop her. From the woods. In front of everyone.
Morgessa heard it too.
