For once, the Duke of Anjou wasn't sitting in a chair waiting for Lina when she entered the study. Instead, he stood silently beside the window, his hair and shoulders soaked from the rain. It wasn't surprising. Umbrellas were still uncommon in Lorraine, and most people had to make do with cloaks when caught in bad weather. Lina glanced at the water dripping from his clothes and briefly wondered whether she should introduce umbrellas sooner rather than later. It would be a useful invention to share with the people, and she could hardly think of a better time to start.
Putting the thought aside, she approached him quietly.
The moment the Duke of Anjou noticed her in her nightclothes, his gloomy expression softened a little. His brows remained furrowed, but he still gave her a proper courtly bow.
