I woke up to sunlight hitting my face at a completely unreasonable angle, bright enough to force my eyes open before I was ready.
I blinked and looked up, expecting the ceiling of the guest room, but there was nothing above me except open sky and drifting clouds, the breeze brushing against my skin like I wasn't supposed to be inside at all.
I pushed myself up slowly and looked around. Somehow I'd ended up on the ground just outside the house, right next to the bed frame visible through the open window, like I had climbed out in my sleep without noticing. The window was still closed.
I stared at it for a second.
Damned vow.
Something small bit my ankle.
I looked down immediately. A white creature had latched onto my pants and was tugging at it with determination, like it had already decided this was worth its time.
"Hey. Leave it." I said flatly.
It did not leave it.
