Was she in a fantasy world?
Carla wondered when the butler walked away. Even the dress she had been given- a white chemise- looked exactly like a medieval movie gown.
"Er- Excuse me," she called on the butler, raising her hands in gesture to draw his attention.
"Sorry," she gulped awkwardly at how unprofessional her action was.
The man turned to her in a trained precision, his face straight and void of emotions.
She cleared her throat.
"Forgive me but I haven't seen the owner of this house." She said, even though she knew that sounded stupid.
She remembered only seeing the man's shadow back at the alley. She didn't clearly see his face that had been hidden under a black hat and he hadn't gotten close enough for her to see anything.
The creepy man had disappeared the next instant before she could speak and had only tossed her a cloak to cover herself before a black van had picked her up on the main road and brought her here.
