Chapter 6 - Lesson 1

The flight squadron members let out a series of ambiguous laughs as they watched Chief Mechanic Xiao Ming and the new recruit Chen Fei walk away.

The sudden arrival of a newcomer to the maintenance team seemed to have provided the bored flight squadron with something amusing.

Whenever a clueless rookie appeared, it often added a lot of topics to the otherwise dull base life.

Hangar No. 1 was quite spacious, easily accommodating six propeller-driven light attack aircraft and two armed helicopters, with ample space still reserved for rows of neatly arranged shelves and even stacked standard shipping containers.

One of the containers had been converted into the maintenance team's office, furnished with several sets of desks and chairs and a row of personal lockers. A folding bed could also be set up for a short rest during breaks.

"Sit!"

Xiao Ming, who led Chen Fei into the container office, pointed to a chair, then turned and brought out a large plate with two bowls of white porridge, a plate of steamed buns, a dish of bacon and fried eggs, a platter of pickled vegetables, and a large jug of milk. The aroma of the food quickly filled the air.

He handed Chen Fei a set of bowls and chopsticks, saying, "This is breakfast; let's eat together!"

"Thank you!"

Chen Fei didn't stand on ceremony; he took a bowl of porridge and ate it all up with steamed buns, fried eggs, and a few pickled vegetables.

The mechanic, Xiao Ming, lived up to his physique, finishing all the food Chen Fei hadn't touched, including the large pot of steaming milk.

After setting aside the empty bowls and clean plates, Xiao Ming brought out a cardboard box and pushed it in front of Chen Fei.

"Here, this is your work computer."

Chen Fei glanced at the box, somewhat surprised.

Inside wasn't just a computer, but the latest tablet. Judging from the specifications printed on the box, it was light and thin, with decent local hardware performance, and even supported cloud technology, far superior to his old laptop that had been with him throughout his university years. It came with cloud services, and its hardware performance could be accelerated by cloud hardware services.

"Power on, take this special data cable, and follow me!"

Xiao Ming tossed over another snake-like cable and walked out of the container office without hesitation, showing no intention of introducing Chen Fei, the newcomer, to the other colleagues in the maintenance team. Whether

Whether Chen Fei would ultimately gain his approval and stay in the maintenance team was still uncertain.

If he didn't meet the requirements, he would still be sent to the cleaning team to sweep floors and do manual labor.

In fact, the maintenance team was so busy from morning till night that they didn't even notice the arrival of a newcomer.

The special data cable was dazzlingly golden at both ends; there was no doubt that it was plated with 24K gold, and its length alone was more than enough to be used as a jump rope.

Chen Fei, holding the tablet computer he had taken from the box in one hand, wrapped the data cable around his wrist and quickly followed.

Even if he hadn't eaten pork, he had at least seen pigs run; he easily found the power button, pressed it, and the entire screen lit up. In just one breath, he entered the standard desktop.

Holding one end of the data cable, I aligned it with the tablet's connector and plugged it in—successfully on the first try.

The outdated foolproof design is long gone; the universal data interface and proprietary protocol recognition ensure that it's plugged in correctly no matter how you plug it in and will absolutely not damage either device.

Upon arriving at the work area, Xiao Ming patted the belly of a propeller-driven aircraft awaiting maintenance and said, "This is an A-39B light attack aircraft. It has a name, 'Big Mouth Monster,' and is an upgraded version of the A-29 'Super Tucano.' It features an optimized long-life turboprop engine, significantly improving payload and range. The biggest improvement is its ability to carry and launch the Lewis Industries KDK-1 air-breathing hypersonic smart missile, powerful enough to kill a dragon. The KDK-1 is also known as the 'Dragon Killer,' and even golden dragons cannot escape its effects."

The A-29 "Super Tucano" also has a rather foolish twin brother called the B-250, a streamlined version with one less propeller blade, no wing-mounted cannon, but two more hardpoints, increasing its range and endurance by 50%, making it more suitable as a reconnaissance and patrol aircraft.

"Dragon Killer?" Chen Fei gasped.

Since the end of the "War of the Three Realms' Fusion" thirty years ago, apart from the remnants of the Third Era civilization, the Neanderthals' mass migration to the Blue Star Realm and even the Azure Realm, and the depleted Primordial Realm falling into silence, the still vibrant Blue Star Realm and Azure Realm have seen increasingly frequent exchanges. These exchanges extend beyond economic and cultural spheres; many strange creatures have arrived in the Blue Star Realm through various channels, including the dragons who occupy the pinnacle of life.

According to a series of agreements reached between the Blue Star Realm and the Azure Realm, there are clauses stipulating that if threatening creatures (including but not limited to dragons) cause innocent casualties or destruction, the civilization to which the threatening creature belongs has the right to eliminate them and terminate the threat.

The vast majority of dragons are peaceful and friendly, except for the gold dragons.

The "Halo" gate in near-Earth orbit is managed by the digital intelligent construct Cybertron, but on the opposite side of the Azure Realm, it is guarded by the entire Gold Dragon Clan.

The two realms have completely different, even contradictory, names for this gate.

On Earth, it's called the "Guardian Ring," but in the Celestial Realm, due to a taboo topic, it's known as the "Ring of Destruction." It's not that they're targeting each other, but rather that the reasons for their formation are somewhat inexplicable.

The special killing authorization clause largely targets not only easily out-of-control magical beasts but also prevents mindless metal dragons from suddenly acting out of control and leaving the "Aura" to cause trouble. The

The metal-eating metal dragon race has now found a new evolutionary lineage, becoming the Digital Dragon race, capable of causing immense destruction to human civilization, especially on Earth.

The increasingly difficult-to-deal-with Digital Dragons necessitate corresponding countermeasures and deterrence. Therefore, the KDK-1 air-breathing hypersonic intelligent missile, known as the "Dragon-Slaying Missile," was developed. Its identification database records the characteristic models of the dragon race, with an effective range of 300 kilometers. Its hit rate is particularly high within 100 kilometers; if three "dragon-slaying missiles" lock onto a target simultaneously, the probability of destruction is almost 100%.

This domineering and ferocious weapon is called the "Dragon Slayer Bullet" because its power is not to be underestimated. Once it hits, it will instantly turn everything within the kill radius into dust and annihilation. Even the thick-skinned dragon cannot withstand such a fatal blow.

"Look! That's the humidity-controlled storage box for the 'Dragon Slayer Bullet.' It needs to be charged and decoded before it can be officially deployed. The weapons team is responsible for this, and it will also require a computer and data cable."

Chief mechanic Xiao Ming pointed to the edge of the dedicated work area, where six rectangular silver boxes were stacked together. The surface of the boxes was printed with the words "KDK-1," "production date," "serial number," and "Louis Industries."

Such a powerful weapon is in a dormant state and is not usually used lightly. Once activated, it means that a major event has occurred.

"Open the application 'Sky Eye Cloud Inspection,' register a personal account first, remember to enter your work card number, and let me know when you're done." I'll grant you authorization."

Xiao Ming guided Chen Fei step-by-step through operating the newly issued productivity tool. This tablet computer used a custom-packaged system with an integrated special key chip, and it had already been debugged. Upon powering on, it automatically connected to the hangar's Wi-Fi network.

"Sky Eye Cloud Inspection" was aviation maintenance software customized by the contractor of the 911 Air Service Base, which could assist employees in inspecting aviation equipment.

Chief Engineer Xiao's method of training new recruits was simple, direct, and effective. The fastest way to get started was through practical experience; theoretical foundations were secondary.

Using this light attack aircraft directly as practice would allow Chen Fei to quickly familiarize himself with the basic work of the maintenance team.

The advantage of this approach was that it allowed him to quickly understand the components and common faults of the A-39 light attack aircraft. However, the disadvantage was also obvious: it could easily lead to specialization. If he encountered other aircraft models, he would be completely lost and would have to start from scratch.

As the saying goes, "The master leads you through the door, but the practice is up to you." If he wanted to handle more complex and difficult tasks, he needed more time to accumulate knowledge little by little. There were no shortcuts; he had to consciously and diligently make up for any missing foundational knowledge.

"Authorization is now complete." Log out and log back in. Try inserting the 'Big Mouth Monster' and activating the aircraft's maintenance module."

Chief mechanic Xiao Ming skillfully opened the maintenance panel of the A-39B light attack aircraft in the work area. He instructed Chen Fei to plug the other end of the dedicated data cable connected to the tablet into the corresponding interface on the panel—the familiar universal data interface.

Beep!

A signal light on the maintenance panel lit up, quickly changing from a flashing yellow to a steady green.

The five-inch LCD screen displayed "Maintenance Mode" and "Connected device detected, connecting..."

Then, a flashing blue signal light appeared.

In the maintenance team, insertion is the most common operating procedure.

If you can't even insert something, what's the point of living? -
