"What… is going on here?"
Natsuhiko's expression turned strange as he sensed the surge of Ryūmyaku chakra flooding into his body. What puzzled him most was that, even as that foreign power rushed through him, he felt no discomfort at all. On the contrary, his body seemed to accept it with surprising ease, as if it naturally belonged there.
Could it be because I absorbed Ryūmyaku power before…? Is that why this is happening?
He pondered the question for quite a while, but in the end, he couldn't arrive at any better explanation.
The amount of Ryūmyaku chakra was enormous. Even though more than ninety-five percent of it had already been devoured by the Nine-Tails, the remaining five percent alone far exceeded what Natsuhiko had managed to extract back then.
That residual power swelled within him, making his entire body feel bloated, as though it were on the verge of bursting. The sensation of being filled to the brim with overwhelming energy was exhilarating—but it was still foreign chakra. Bringing it fully under control would be no simple task.
Thankfully, I've dealt with something like this before. It'll be harder this time, but at least I know what I'm dealing with.
With that thought, Natsuhiko swiftly formed hand seals. Sage chakra surged in response, flowing rapidly through his system, and in moments, a sealing technique was complete.
He had sealed portions of Ryūmyaku chakra before, but over time, some of it had been consumed as nourishment for his "seed," while the rest had gradually integrated into his own chakra network.
This time, he intended to handle it the same way.
With the small Nine-Tails temporarily gone, his seed had been relying solely on his own chakra to grow. Now, however, he could use this unexpected influx of energy to accelerate its development.
As for the remaining surplus, sealing it inside his body seemed like the safest option. Perhaps, someday, it could even be used by the Nine-Tails.
"Ninjutsu: Eight Trigrams Seal!"
Once everything was ready, Natsuhiko pressed his hand firmly against his abdomen. In the next instant, a series of mysterious sealing formulas appeared beneath his clothing, etched across his stomach.
At the same time, the chakra within him stabilized, and that uncomfortable swelling sensation finally subsided.
Natsuhiko let out a quiet breath of relief. He hadn't expected that a portion of the Ryūmyaku chakra would end up inside him after all. He had fully intended to leave it entirely to the Nine-Tails, yet things had turned out differently.
Lifting his head slightly, he turned his gaze toward the Nine-Tails.
By now, its form had undergone a complete transformation.
The once towering sealing structure had been utterly destroyed under the combined impact of the Ryūmyaku chakra and the beast's own evolution—it was nothing more than rubble.
The Nine-Tails now stood at a scale not inferior to the monstrous form that had once attacked Konoha. Standing at its feet, Natsuhiko seemed utterly insignificant in comparison.
Even so, he could tell that this "young" Nine-Tails, while crouched, was only around forty to fifty meters tall. If it stood upright, it might reach seventy or even eighty meters.
Compared to the Nine-Tails at its peak, however, this was still far from its true size.
After all, when it had been controlled by the Uchiha and unleashed against Hashirama Senju, it had wielded a Perfect Susanoo in its "Beast Rage" state—one that towered over two hundred meters high.
Which meant that, at its absolute peak, the Nine-Tails itself had stood at nearly the same height.
Of course, Naruto had once used Six Paths Mode to manifest the Nine-Tails in full form, and even in that standing posture, its size had been utterly colossal.
After all, it had been meant to contend with Sasuke's ultimate Perfect Susanoo—if it couldn't match that height, it would have been at a serious disadvantage.
This little guy still has a long way to go…
Natsuhiko muttered to himself inwardly. By now, the small Nine-Tails seemed to have come back to its senses as well, its gaze shifting toward him.
"Looks like this chakra really works," the young Nine-Tails said in a deep, muffled voice. Despite its growth, its tone hadn't changed much.
"I can feel it… I've become much stronger. My chakra is fuller than ever—my current state is far beyond what it used to be."
"Is that so?" Natsuhiko nodded lightly, a faint smile appearing on his lips. "Then congratulations. At this rate, you're almost catching up to that big one when it attacked Konoha."
"Still far from it," the small Nine-Tails replied, shaking its head, which caught Natsuhiko slightly off guard. "That one's power was greater. It was just heavily suppressed by the seal, so when it appeared, it couldn't reach its true peak."
"I know," Natsuhiko said with a casual shrug, smiling as he clarified, "I was talking about your size. At least in terms of appearance, you're getting there—even if you still have a long road ahead."
The small Nine-Tails bared its teeth, seemingly trying to smile, but with its current massive form, the expression came off as rather terrifying.
And it was clear that, having only just reached this stage, it couldn't fully control its power yet. Its aura was spilling wildly into the surroundings, surging outward without restraint.
Even its chakra control was unstable—just a casual flick of its tail sent violent waves of energy rippling through the air, creating a pressure so intense that even Natsuhiko could feel it bearing down on him.
"…Hm?"
Suddenly, Natsuhiko sensed something.
In the distance, a group of people was watching them from afar. Among them, one familiar figure was rushing straight toward him—it was Sara.
What surprised him, however, was that he could clearly sense her presence despite the considerable distance between them.
That alone meant one thing: his sensory abilities had improved once again.
In truth, Natsuhiko's perception had been steadily strengthening for some time now, even if he didn't fully understand why. As his power grew, both the range and precision of his sensing abilities had continued to expand.
In the past, even with Sage Mode, his detection range had never reached this level.
But now, with Sage Mode active, he could perceive things more than ten kilometers away. It was a strangely fascinating sensation.
Even so, Natsuhiko remained grounded. After all, his predecessor, Tobirama Senju, had once been able to sense Uchiha Madara's chakra all the way from within Konoha—despite Madara being in the Land of Lightning.
That wasn't just a matter of distance anymore. Even accounting for Madara's overwhelming presence, being able to achieve something like that placed one firmly at the very pinnacle of the shinobi world.
It's not just this little guy who has a long road ahead… mine is just as long.
Natsuhiko was keenly aware of that fact.
If he had been born an Uchiha, he would undoubtedly have taken Madara as his model, tracing his path step by step, learning from his growth and using it to refine himself.
Strictly speaking, that path would have been relatively straightforward—after all, Madara's progression was clear and well-documented.
But unfortunately, after transmigrating into this world, he had become a member of the Senju clan. That meant the only path available to him was to draw from the examples of the two great predecessors who had already forged their own legacies.
Of course, that didn't mean he lacked other references. Naruto himself was one of the figures Natsuhiko looked to for inspiration.
Even so, it was only that—reference.
Because when he thought back on it, the path he had taken in his early stages was already vastly different from Naruto's.
In the past, Natsuhiko had never believed he would have a chance to obtain a Tailed Beast. At most, he thought he might get his hands on a portion of their chakra—and even that would have been an incredible stroke of luck.
But now… things were different.
Not only could he seriously use Naruto as a reference, but in terms of overall capability—and even the completeness of his bond with the Nine-Tails—he was already far ahead.
The only thing I lack is Naruto's pure and sincere heart…
Natsuhiko reflected silently, but someone like me doesn't need something like that.
With that thought, he turned his gaze toward the small Nine-Tails.
"Come back. It's time for us to leave."
"Alright."
The small Nine-Tails nodded, and in the next instant, its massive body dissolved into a mass of crimson chakra. That energy surged forward, flowing rapidly into Natsuhiko's body, and as it did, he felt a sudden, unmistakable increase in his strength.
The Nine-Tails' growth had far exceeded his expectations. How could that not make him feel pleased?
Closing his eyes slightly, Natsuhiko summoned his system interface, which appeared clearly within his mind.

As Natsuhiko examined his status panel, the smile at the corner of his lips grew wider and wider.
The Land of Wind truly was a blessed place for him. Both times he had come here, he had gained tremendous power. The feeling was undeniably satisfying.
Still, this would likely be his last visit. He had already taken everything worth taking from this land—there was no need to stir up more trouble by returning again.
And this time… the improvements are quite interesting as well.
His gaze lingered on the "Semi-Kage" rank displayed by the system.
To be honest, even Natsuhiko himself couldn't clearly define what "Semi-Kage" truly meant. It likely indicated that his strength had reached the level of a Kage in some respects, while still falling short in others.
In truth, he had always found the system's evaluation standards rather vague. What exactly qualified someone as a true Kage? The system had never given a precise answer.
But Natsuhiko couldn't be bothered to dwell on it. At best, such rankings were just references—what truly determined a shinobi's strength was their overall capability.
And in that regard, he was anything but weak.
This so-called "Semi-Kage" classification merely reflected the level he could display without using his other abilities.
But was he the kind of person who would hold back his power?
Hardly.
Leaving aside everything else, the Flying Thunder God Technique had already become one of his standard jutsu, and he had no intention of hesitating when it came to using Sage Arts or any of his other abilities.
Unless I need to conceal my identity, I'll use everything at my disposal.
Beyond the growth of his raw strength, his hidden potential had also advanced significantly.
The two seeds he had entrusted to the Nine-Tails for cultivation were already close to completion, and now, with the help of the Ryūmyaku's power, they had been finished in one go.
For Natsuhiko, that was undoubtedly excellent news.
He didn't particularly care that his Fire Release remained at a basic level—but the improvement in sealing techniques was another matter entirely. That, more than anything, would allow his Flying Thunder God Technique to reach an even greater level.
After all, the stronger his sealing techniques became, the more precisely he could control and utilize the marks required for the Flying Thunder God.
Aside from the sealing-type fruit, there weren't any particularly noticeable improvements in the other areas.
If there was anything worth being pleased about, it was that his unique mission had progressed a little further. Thinking about it carefully, that was probably because news of him becoming the head of the ANBU had already spread.
As for his bloodline development not increasing, Natsuhiko had been mentally prepared for that. He hadn't expected to gain any breakthroughs in that area here anyway.
The most satisfying change, however, was undoubtedly related to the Nine-Tails.
The little fellow had, as expected, grown to an intermediate level.
Moreover, the Ryūmyaku chakra had proven to be overwhelmingly abundant. Even after devouring such a massive amount and successfully evolving, the Nine-Tails hadn't been able to fully digest it all. Fortunately, that excess chakra hadn't gone to waste—it remained within its body, continuing to nourish its growth over time.
A classic case of overeating and then slowly digesting the rest…
After briefly summarizing the Nine-Tails' condition in his mind, a thought suddenly occurred to Natsuhiko.
Previously, the young Nine-Tails had lacked both the quality and quantity of chakra necessary to attempt a certain state.
In the original story, Naruto had only possessed half of the Nine-Tails, yet even that had allowed him to enter an astonishing mode—one that unleashed unimaginable power.
Now, however, it seemed that Natsuhiko could finally give it a try himself.
He found himself genuinely looking forward to this so-called Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.
Hey, little guy…
Natsuhiko spoke inwardly. Even though the Nine-Tails could hardly be called "little" anymore, he still found the nickname fitting.
"Do you think we can try chakra resonance now? Enter that so-called 'Nine-Tails Chakra Mode'?"
"…We might be able to," the Nine-Tails' voice echoed quickly in his mind. "My chakra reserves are sufficient now, and I can feel myself still growing. But there's something I need to remind you of."
"Oh?" Natsuhiko raised a brow slightly. "Go on."
"My current strength isn't fully stable yet—you should already know that," the Nine-Tails replied honestly. "I've only just reached this level, so my power is still somewhat chaotic. Even if we manage to enter that state, it won't last very long."
"I see." Natsuhiko nodded lightly, not the least bit surprised.
Even without the Nine-Tails pointing it out, he could have guessed as much. Just moments ago, its aura had been wildly unstable—it was only natural that its control would be lacking.
Still, as long as they could enter that state at all, that was more than enough for him.
He had time.
Time to wait for the Nine-Tails to grow, and time for himself to grow as well. After all, he wasn't lacking in combat power at the moment—there was no need to rush.
"It's nothing serious," Natsuhiko said casually as he brushed the dust off his clothes, continuing the conversation in his mind. "Chakra resonance isn't something simple anyway. We can take it slow—adjust, experiment, and improve over time."
"However long it lasts, it lasts. We've got a long road ahead of us."
"Of course. But I'm looking forward to being combat-ready."
The Nine-Tails' voice grew a little lazier again as it settled back within him, though its tone still carried a hint of pride.
"I'm not just for show, you know. I inherited that big guy's memories—I've got combat power that's no worse than his."
Natsuhiko simply smiled and nodded.
This "little guy" might have grown in size, but in every other way, it hadn't changed at all.
And that, in its own way, was a very good thing.
Besides… Natsuhiko was already looking forward to the day when that power would fully bloom.
With his current abilities, even summoning a Wood Golem wasn't guaranteed to succeed—let alone something like the Thousand-Hand Buddha, a technique powerful enough to contend with, or even suppress, a Perfect Susanoo.
And yet, he couldn't help but look forward to it.
One day… if I can cloak the Thousand-Hand Buddha in Sage Art and Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, and combine it with the Flying Thunder God…
The mere thought made his blood stir.
At that point, the sheer destructive force and lethality of such a combination would be enough for a single man to make an entire village tremble in fear.
...
Shaking his head lightly, Natsuhiko pulled himself back from his thoughts, his perception once again locking onto Sara as she hurried toward him.
She was still quite far away. After all, she wasn't a shinobi—her slower speed was only natural.
Natsuhiko knew she was coming to find him, and he had no intention of making things difficult for her.
His chakra rippled gently, and in the next instant, he vanished from the ruins of the sealing tower, reappearing at the outskirts of Rōran. From there, he pushed off the ground and dashed straight toward her.
Enhanced by chakra, his speed was far greater than before. Across the vast desert, a streak of azure light flashed like lightning, cutting through the barren expanse.
And yet, strangely enough, not a single grain of sand was disturbed in its wake.
...
Inside the Kazekage's office in Sunagakure, Rasa sat quietly, reviewing reports.
The past half year had been the most difficult and exhausting period he had ever endured. Calling it "unlucky" didn't even begin to describe it.
About six months ago, Iwagakure had brazenly launched attacks against Sunagakure's forces in several border nations—places like the Land of Bears, regions that lay between the Land of Wind and the Land of Earth, where both sides held competing interests.
Faced with such aggression, Rasa had no choice but to respond.
At the time, however, Sunagakure had also been under constant harassment from Kirigakure. To avoid being caught in a two-front conflict, he made a decisive move—one that could be summed up as befriending distant enemies while dealing with those closer at hand.
Though he hadn't put it quite so bluntly, the meaning was clear enough.
He chose to negotiate peace with Kirigakure, hoping to focus all of Sunagakure's strength against Iwagakure's invasion.
To achieve this, he had even gone so far as to personally send one of Sunagakure's most talented shinobi—Pakura, wielder of the Scorch Release—into the abyss.
But what happened next was beyond anything he could have anticipated.
At that exact moment, a Konoha ANBU known as "Nightingale" entered the Land of Wind, supposedly to return Yashamaru.
Konoha and Sunagakure ceased hostilities and even formed an alliance of sorts.
Of course, everyone knew such an alliance was little more than a façade. Beneath the surface, competition—and even conflict—would never truly cease.
Driven by the desire for greater advantage, and especially after learning that this "Nightingale" was a high-ranking ANBU division commander, Rasa made his move.
It was a decision he would come to regret deeply.
Because that move was like striking a hornet's nest.
The Konoha Nightingale displayed a level of strength that left everyone in shock. Though it was unclear why he had initially chosen to retreat, what followed was nothing short of devastating—he single-handedly slaughtered over a hundred Suna shinobi.
Among the fallen were two entire ANBU division, along with the entirety of the sealing unit.
Such losses were catastrophic—unacceptable for any village.
And to make matters worse, that same man had obtained Pakura's mission details and, through unknown means, managed to decrypt them.
Even Chiyo, the legendary kunoichi of Sunagakure, had personally attempted to intercept him—only to return in defeat.
Rasa had grown numb.
Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined things would spiral to this extent.
And after that incident, it felt as though his luck had completely bottomed out.
First, Pakura somehow learned the truth about her mission—and about the betrayal she had suffered. In the end, she chose to die together with the Kirigakure shinobi sent to eliminate her.
That single event enraged Kirigakure. Despite earlier agreements to withdraw, they remained, continuing to pressure Sunagakure and creating even more trouble.
As a result, Sunagakure found itself under constant harassment from multiple sides. Even under Rasa's leadership, they were unable to effectively resist the forces of Iwagakure led by Ōnoki.
In the end, they had no choice but to withdraw in disgrace from places like the Land of Bears. The losses they suffered were staggering—enough to make anyone's heart sink.
This chain of events pushed Rasa to the brink and dragged an already struggling Sunagakure into an even deeper crisis.
Left with no alternatives, he was forced to tighten everything. Adopting a "low-price" strategy, he began taking on missions at reduced rates across the board, hoping to rebuild Sunagakure's reputation and restore its soft power.
To make this possible, he even recalled the shinobi previously stationed to blockade Rōran. If things hadn't reached such a desperate point, who would ever be willing to go that far?
Fortunately, the policy did produce some results. Although the profits from missions dropped significantly, the sheer volume of work they took on allowed Sunagakure to stabilize, if only slightly.
Yet before Rasa could feel any relief, another piece of news arrived—one that filled him with fury.
Konoha had been attacked by the Nine-Tails.
Under normal circumstances, that would have been excellent news. Given the ongoing conflict of interests between Sunagakure and Konoha, Rasa should have been pleased.
But when he learned another detail about the incident, his emotions turned numb once more.
The Konoha "Nightingale" who had attacked them before… was actually a descendant of the Senju clan.
Not only was this man proficient in the Flying Thunder God Technique—he could also use Wood Release.
That information was nothing short of disastrous.
Flying Thunder God alone was already troublesome enough, but now there was Wood Release as well? And according to the reports, his Wood Release was far from weak—he had even managed to suppress the Nine-Tails itself.
How could Rasa possibly feel happy about that?
If anything, the existence of Wood Release meant that Konoha would suffer little to no lasting damage from the Nine-Tails' attack. Their reputation and standing, which should have taken a heavy hit, would likely remain intact.
They might even grow stronger because of it.
After all, Wood Release was the very power that had once brought peace to the entire shinobi world.
And the news that followed only made things worse—so much so that it completely extinguished whatever thoughts of revenge Rasa still harbored.
According to reliable intelligence, the former commander of Konoha's ANBU, Takumi Murashima, had died. His successor… was none other than the Nightingale himself—Senju Natsuhiko.
"Why is fate so unfair?" Rasa muttered more than once. "Konoha has everything… while our Sunagakure has nothing."
Such words had escaped his lips time and again, and the frustration behind them was very real.
But today, he had no time to dwell on such thoughts.
As he looked down at the report in his hands, his brows furrowed.
"Those people from Rōran are trading goods again? Hmph… refusing to hire shinobi, ignoring our authority… If we weren't in this situation, how could we let them live so comfortably?"
Rasa held no goodwill toward the people of Rōran. Though they lived within the Land of Wind, they remained effectively independent from Sunagakure.
Worse still, out of fear that Sunagakure might covet the Ryūmyaku, they would rather seek help from Konoha when trouble arose than turn to their own supposed allies.
Rasa admitted that he did have designs on the Ryūmyaku—but what angered him most was being so openly slighted.
Because of this, he had begun taking retaliatory measures against Rōran, which in turn had contributed to the city's increasingly dire situation.
Just wait… it won't be long before they collapse completely.
The thought flashed viciously through his mind.
But at that very moment, a sudden unease stirred within him. Almost instinctively, he turned to look out the window.
His expression shifted.
In the distant sky, it seemed as though a streak of light had flashed past—and its direction was unmistakably toward Rōran.
"Lord Fourth Kazekage!"
At that moment, Chiyo hurried into the room, her pace urgent.
"Something's happened."
"What is it?" Rasa's expression darkened as he rose to his feet. "What happened?"
"The Ryūmyaku," Chiyo said gravely. "Not long ago, there was an intense surge of chakra detected from its location—but it vanished just as quickly."
"Has the seal failed?" Rasa asked, a trace of confusion in his voice. But almost immediately, his expression darkened. "Or… has someone tampered with the Ryūmyaku?"
Chiyo did not answer. In truth, she didn't know how to.
That silence alone was enough to make Rasa's face turn grim. Could it be that something had really gone wrong with the Ryūmyaku?
He paced back and forth for a few steps before finally stopping and looking at Chiyo with a serious expression. "If—and I mean if—something has happened to the Ryūmyaku, who do you think could have done it?"
"The Ryūmyaku was sealed by Konoha," Chiyo said after a moment of hesitation. "It's hard to say they don't have a way to interfere with it. And… Fourth Kazekage, do you remember something?"
"Remember what?" Rasa frowned. "Just say it."
"The Konoha Nightingale—the current ANBU commander, Senju Natsuhiko—when he came to the Land of Wind half a year ago, he disappeared for a period of time while evading my brother's pursuit."
Chiyo carefully organized her thoughts before continuing.
"With his strength, why would he choose to retreat back then? And after he disappeared… where did he go? Those questions have always been puzzling."
"…You're saying…" Rasa's expression turned ashen. "He went to Rōran?"
"I don't know." Chiyo shook her head. "I'm only voicing my suspicions. Besides, the Fourth Hokage's seal isn't something easily broken. If anyone could undo it… it would likely be Konoha."
Hearing this, Rasa began pacing again, circling the desk before suddenly slamming his fist down onto it.
"Konoha… and that damn Senju Natsuhiko. How infuriating!"
...
"So they finally figured it out, huh… the people of Sunagakure."
Out in the desert, Natsuhiko stood over the fallen bodies of Suna shinobi. Casually, he flicked the blood from his blade before forming a hand seal. Flames surged forth, reducing the corpses to ashes in an instant.
Having already consumed both the basic Fire Release fruit and the intermediate sealing-type fruit, he could now freely use simple fire techniques.
And even those "simple" techniques, in his hands, carried terrifying power.
After all, the quality of his chakra was exceptionally high, and his reserves were immense. Overwhelming force wasn't always the most refined approach—but when one had the ability to crush everything head-on, there was little reason to hold back.
Turning around, Natsuhiko glanced at the caravan of Rōran survivors trailing behind him and couldn't help but sigh softly.
It had been three days since they set out, and he hadn't experienced such a slow pace in a long time.
Still, he had given Sara his word. No matter how flexible his moral bottom line might be, he had no intention of breaking a promise.
The people of Rōran didn't have many options when it came to where they could go after leaving the Land of Wind.
At the very least, Natsuhiko had no intention of taking them to the Land of Fire. He wasn't ready to reveal that he had taken control of the Ryūmyaku, and if they went there, it would inevitably attract Konoha's attention.
And if Sara happened to let something slip… his secrets would be exposed to the entire world.
So, considering places with decent environments and relative safety, only a few options came to mind.
One was the Land of Hot Water, protected by its own shinobi village. Moreover, the cult organizations that would one day plague it had already been wiped out by Natsuhiko, making it a fairly suitable destination.
Another was the Land of Tea—a coastal nation without its own shinobi village, yet effectively a backyard of Konoha. Its safety and living conditions were both guaranteed.
After much consideration, Sara ultimately chose the Land of Tea—a decision that made Natsuhiko quietly breathe a sigh of relief.
Although the Land of Tea was far from his own destination, the Land of Grass, there was a direct sea route from the Land of Wind. In a way, that reduced his burden.
And as for travel speed, Natsuhiko had no concerns. Without anyone slowing him down, he could easily reach the Land of Grass within a week.
But with these civilians in tow… that was another matter entirely.
Of course, Sunagakure wasn't foolish. By now, they had already reacted.
"Still… their response feels strangely weak. What's going on?"
Natsuhiko had experienced being surrounded by Suna forces before, and he knew how suffocating that pressure could be. Compared to that, this time felt almost… underwhelming.
"Are you alright?"
Sara's voice came from behind him as she approached, her expression filled with concern.
"For now, yes." Natsuhiko smiled faintly and shook his head. "In two more days, we'll reach the port. After that, you'll be—"
Before he could finish his sentence, his brows suddenly furrowed. He turned sharply, his gaze locking onto the distant horizon.
There, in the shifting sands, several figures flickered in and out of view.
They wore long black cloaks patterned with red clouds.
