Chapter 4 - Chapter 4:“How to Build a Nation with 84 Military Points and Questionable Sanity”

Stormhold officially had:

1 Commander

1 Civilian (who regretted staying)

2 Soldiers (Kevin & Steve)

1 Burned Basement

1 Watch Post

1 Barricade

84 Military Points

He stood in the lobby with arms crossed.

"This," he declared, "is progress."

Mira looked around at cracked walls and a corpse stain he missed earlier.

"This is a building."

"It is a sovereign defensive structure."

"It's an apartment."

"It's a developing apartment."

The system chimed.

Stormhold Status: OperationalDefense Rating: 25Sustainability Rating: 8Morale: Surprisingly Stable

He blinked.

"…Surprisingly?"

Based on environmental conditions.

He glanced at the broken light fixture.

"…Fair."

🧱 Phase 1: Internal Infrastructure

He opened Base Management.

Available Constructions:

Supply Storage (25 MP)

Basic Barracks (40 MP)

Workshop (50 MP)

Kitchen Upgrade (10 MP)

Medical Station (45 MP)

He squinted at "Kitchen Upgrade."

"…Why is kitchen cheaper than barricade?"

Nutrition impacts morale.

He nodded.

"Morale is important."

Mira blinked.

"You're not serious."

He looked at her.

"Hungry people revolt."

"We have five people."

"Five is enough."

She stared.

"…You're planning long-term."

"Yes."

She slowly rubbed her temples.

"…You're actually planning long-term."

"Yes."

The system added:

Recommend balanced development to avoid structural vulnerability.

"…Stop judging me."

🏗 Construction 1: Supply Storage

He selected Supply Storage – 25 MP.

MP: 59 remaining.

A previously empty apartment on Floor 2 shimmered.

Metal shelves materialized.

Crates stacked neatly.

Inventory panel popped up.

Storage Capacity Increased: +100 UnitsResource Efficiency: +5%

He blinked.

"Oh."

Mira walked upstairs cautiously.

She stepped into the new storage room.

"…This was a bedroom."

"It still is. For supplies."

"That's not how bedrooms work."

"It is now."

Kevin walked in and began stacking scavenged cans with robotic precision.

Steve stood guard at the door like a very serious grocery manager.

Mira turned slowly.

"…You are reorganizing the apocalypse."

"Yes."

🛏 Construction 2: Basic Barracks

He hesitated.

40 MP.

Worth it?

He looked at Kevin and Steve.

They did not move.

They did not blink.

They did not breathe noticeably.

"…Do you sleep?"

Kevin answered flatly.

"Negative."

He blinked.

"…Do you need rest?"

"Operational endurance: high."

He squinted at the system.

"They don't need barracks."

Correct.

"Then why is Barracks available?"

For human recruits.

He paused.

Mira stared at him.

"You're recruiting more?"

"Yes."

She looked around.

"From where?"

He smiled slightly.

"We'll see."

He selected Basic Barracks – 40 MP.

MP: 19 remaining.

Floor 3 Apartment 3B transformed.

Metal bunk beds.

Foot lockers.

Weapon racks.

Ventilation slightly improved.

Unit Capacity Increased: +5Recruitment Efficiency: +10%

He folded his arms.

"Good."

Mira stood in the doorway.

"…This is starting to look real."

He nodded slowly.

"It is."

🧠 AI Evolves Further

The system interface flickered.

Commander Strategic Profile UpdatedCurrent Archetype: "Organized Disaster Enthusiast"

He froze.

"…Excuse me?"

Title awarded based on decision patterns.

He looked at Mira.

"…It's judging me again."

Mira crossed her arms.

"I agree with it."

He sighed.

"Mutiny already."

Mutiny Probability: 2%

He narrowed his eyes.

"Why is that not zero?"

You named both soldiers Kevin and Steve.

"…That's fair."

🏢 Phase 2: Civilian Integration

Tomas (elderly survivor) slowly descended the stairs.

"…Are the monsters gone?"

He gestured vaguely outside.

"For now."

Lio peeked around the corner.

"…Is this safe?"

He thought carefully.

"…Safer."

The system displayed:

Civilian Management Available

He blinked.

"…You're giving me HR now?"

Efficient labor allocation improves survival.

He opened Civil Management.

Assign Roles:

Scavenger

Cook

Maintenance

Lookout

Training Candidate

He looked at Mira.

"You cook?"

She glared.

"I survived two weeks alone."

"Not an answer."

"…Yes."

He assigned Mira: Kitchen & Logistics.

She blinked.

"You just assigned me?"

"Yes."

"You didn't ask."

"Delegation."

She stared at him.

"…I regret staying."

Tomas became Maintenance.

Lio became Lookout trainee.

Stormhold updated.

Civilian Efficiency +8%Daily Food Consumption Stabilized

He nodded approvingly.

"See? Structure."

🏪 Phase 3: Scouting the Grocery Store

Evening approached.

The rooftop watch post revealed increased zombie movement.

Kevin reported:

"Cluster forming near commercial block."

He zoomed in on map.

Grocery store.

Large cluster.

Possible food cache.

He exhaled slowly.

"Okay."

Mira immediately shook her head.

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"You almost died this morning."

"And gained 20 MP."

"That is not how rational people measure survival."

He shrugged.

"It's working."

The system chimed.

Suggested Tactical Sweep: Controlled Aggression with Fallback Route

"…You're enjoying this."

Moderate satisfaction detected.

He stared at the screen.

"You're learning emotions."

Negative. I am simulating efficiency-based feedback.

"…Sure."

🧟 Unexpected Problem

As they prepared to move, Kevin's voice changed slightly.

"Commander."

He turned.

Kevin pointed east.

Dark shapes moving between buildings.

Not random.

Organized.

Mira squinted.

"…Those aren't zombies."

He zoomed map.

Multiple human signatures.

Armed.

Moving in formation.

The system displayed:

Unknown Human Group DetectedEstimated Size: 6–8Classification: Non-Zombie Threat

He went very still.

"…Ah."

Mira swallowed.

"Warlords?"

"Probably."

The group paused near the grocery store.

Examining zombie bodies.

One pointed toward Stormhold's building.

He narrowed his eyes.

"…They saw us."

The system asked calmly:

Engage? Hide? Observe?

He exhaled slowly.

"We observe."

Mira stared.

"You're not attacking?"

"Two soldiers."

She nodded.

"…Right."

He folded his arms.

"Stormhold is small."

He watched the strangers carefully.

"They're scouting."

One of the armed men kicked a zombie corpse.

Another scanned rooftops.

They were not amateurs.

After several tense minutes, they retreated.

He did not move.

He waited.

Only when they disappeared fully did he speak.

"…Okay."

Mira whispered.

"That's bad."

"Yes."

"Very bad."

"Yes."

"You're not laughing."

"No."

He turned back toward the building.

"We accelerate construction."

The system chimed.

Strategic Awareness +5%External Threat Confirmed

He walked inside calmly.

"Kevin."

"Yes, Commander."

"Double rooftop watch."

"Yes, Commander."

"Steve."

"Yes, Commander."

"Reinforce lobby."

"Yes, Commander."

Mira watched him.

"You switched."

"From what?"

"Joking."

He looked at her evenly.

"Stormhold isn't a joke."

Silence.

Then he smirked slightly.

"…Just the management style."

She rolled her eyes in relief.

🏰 End of Chapter 4 Turning Point

Night fell over Vathis.

Stormhold lights flickered faintly inside.

Barricades reinforced.

Watch post active.

Barracks ready.

Supply storage stocked.

Two soldiers guarding.

Three civilians assigned.

One commander calculating.

Outside the Red Zone city…

Zombies wandered.

Hive remnants smoldered.

And somewhere nearby—

A human faction now knew something was rebuilding here.

He stood on the rooftop looking at the horizon.

"They abandoned this nation."

The system glowed softly beside him.

"Yes."

"They marked it dead."

"Yes."

He watched distant shadows move between ruined buildings.

"…Then they won't mind if we keep it."

The system responded quietly:

Stormhold Expansion Phase Initiated.

He smiled faintly.

"Good."

Behind him, Mira leaned against the wall.

"You're smiling again."

"Yes."

"Why?"

He looked at the blue outline expanding slowly on the map.

"Because we're not surviving anymore."

He turned toward the building.

"We're growing."
