AEGIS Headquarters – October 18, 2045 – 08:00 AM
The AEGIS command center was filled with tension so thick it felt physical. Dozens of monitors displayed real-time data on the Axiom Collective mothership in orbit—a colossal structure more than fifty kilometers in diameter, hovering 47,000 kilometers above Earth like a suspended blade of Damocles.
Ren stood before a holographic display projecting the mothership's interior, reconstructed from fragmented intelligence. Beside him, Kazuki led the final briefing for the awakened individuals assigned to the operation.
"Listen carefully," Kazuki said, his voice authoritative. "We only get one shot. If we fail, humanity will be extinct within days."
He activated a new hologram showing their infiltration route.
"Phase One: Launch. We'll be using the prototype spacecraft AEGIS developed—Icarus-7. It incorporates stealth technology reverse-engineered from an Axiom probe we captured last year. In theory, we should be able to avoid detection until we're close to the mothership."
Reina raised a hand. "In theory? You're not sure?"
"Success rate: 67.3%," Kazuki replied bluntly. "We've never tested it in a live combat scenario."
Uneasy murmurs rippled through the room.
"Phase Two: Infiltration," Kazuki continued. "Once we reach the mothership, Ren will lead the advance team to breach the hull. His adaptive ability should handle the defense systems."
Kazuki met Ren's eyes. "Are you ready?"
Ren nodded, though images of Kuro's erasure and Zepez's warning still lingered in his mind. "I'm ready."
"Phase Three: Sabotage." The hologram shifted to reveal the ship's core. "Our intel suggests a central power core deep inside. Destroy it, and the entire vessel will be disabled. The invasion stops."
Takeshi, the green-haired technopath, asked, "What kind of defenses guard the core?"
"Heavy," Kazuki admitted. "Multiple security layers, combat drones, and likely elite Axiom units. This will be the most dangerous phase."
"And Phase Four?" Yuki asked from the back, wearing her issued tactical suit.
"Escape," Kazuki said. "After the core is destroyed, we'll have ten to fifteen minutes before the mothership collapses or explodes."
Silence settled over the room.
Ren stepped forward. "There's something else you need to know."
All eyes turned to him.
"Last night, I encountered something," he began. He told them about Zepez Shivavel—the headless demonic entity that destroyed Kuro—and its warning about something sleeping beneath Earth.
When he finished, disbelief and fear filled the room.
"A demon?" Sakura whispered. "You mean a literal demon?"
"Yes," Ren confirmed. "And according to Zepez, something ancient is buried beneath Earth. The Axiom Collective might be here because of it. The core could contain answers."
Kazuki's expression darkened. "If they're working with demonic entities, the threat level is far higher than we thought."
"That's why we have to succeed," Ren said firmly. "Not just to stop the invasion—but to uncover the truth."
Reina stood. "Then let's stop talking and start killing aliens."
Cheers broke out. Fear remained—but so did resolve.
Kazuki glanced at the clock. "T-minus two hours. Final preparations. Check your gear. Say your goodbyes. Meet in the hangar. Dismissed."
AEGIS Hangar Bay – 09:45 AM
Icarus-7 was a masterpiece of engineering. Eighty meters long, sleek and aerodynamic, its surface coated in metamaterials that bent electromagnetic waves, rendering it nearly invisible to sensors.
Ren stood before the boarding ramp. Beside him, Yuki squeezed his hand.
"Ren… I'm scared."
"So am I," he admitted quietly. "Fear makes us human. It makes us careful. It makes us value life."
"If we survive this," she said, eyes shimmering, "let's go somewhere far away. Just us."
He smiled warmly. "It's a promise."
"Lovebirds!" Reina shouted from inside. "Save it for after we kick alien ass!"
They separated, blushing slightly, and boarded.
Inside, twenty awakened individuals and five crew members strapped into harnesses.
"All systems green," announced Captain Miyamoto. "Initiating launch sequence."
The hangar doors opened to a cloudy sky.
"T-minus 60 seconds. Brace for acceleration."
Ren activated his Omniscience Ability, extending his perception outward. He could sense the mothership in orbit… millions of combat drones… and something else.
An absence shaped like a headless figure.
Zepez was watching.
"Three… two… one… Launch!"
The engines roared. The ship shot skyward, breaking through clouds, atmosphere thinning, Earth curving beneath them.
Then—space.
Black. Silent. Infinite.
"Stealth systems active. ETA to intercept: 47 minutes."
Ren floated forward to view the mothership. Even from forty thousand kilometers away, it dwarfed comprehension.
"And that's just one," Takeshi muttered. "There are hundreds across the galaxy."
"Let's make sure humanity doesn't become another statistic," Reina said.
Halfway through the journey, Ren's Omniscience detected something strange.
"Kazuki," he transmitted. "There's an anomaly deeper than the expected power core. Energy readings inconsistent with Axiom tech."
"Meaning?"
"Something organic. Ancient."
A pause.
"Related to the sleeping entity?"
"Possibly."
"Proceed with caution. And Ren… come back alive."
"We'll try."
They passed the outer defense grid undetected.
"Docking successful," Captain Miyamoto confirmed.
The advance team—Ren, Reina, Takeshi, Sakura, Yuki, and three others—entered the alien vessel.
The corridors were sterile and cold. Alien symbols glowed along seamless walls.
Four combat drones approached.
"Ambush," Ren whispered.
Reina crushed one instantly. Takeshi hijacked another. Ren tore apart the rest. Five seconds—total annihilation.
"Impressive coordination."
A tall, thin figure stepped into view. Metallic gray skin. Multiple glowing eyes.
A Vraal operative.
"Intruders detected—"
Ren moved first.
The battle was brutal. The Vraal adapted quickly, but Ren's Absolute Adaptive evolved faster. He struck through its defenses, destroying its core.
It fell.
"Alarm disabled," Takeshi said. "We have maybe fifteen minutes."
They continued downward toward a massive central shaft stretching kilometers deep.
"Everyone grab me. Now!"
Wings formed from Ren's back—bio-mechanical constructs evolved from analyzed alien tech.
He dove down the shaft, dodging drone fire, descending at impossible speed.
They landed at the lowest level.
And froze.
At the center of a vast chamber floated something… wrong.
An organic-mechanical structure pulsing with impossible colors. Tendrils burrowed into the ship like parasitic roots.
"It's not a power core," Ren whispered.
Understanding slammed into him.
"It's a containment unit."
"For what?" Yuki asked.
"For something sleeping inside Earth. The Axiom Collective isn't conquering us. They're here to extract it."
"And this device?" Reina asked.
"Is meant to contain it after extraction."
"Do we destroy it?"
A familiar voice echoed.
"Good question."
From the shadows emerged Zepez Shivavel.
"Destroy the containment and risk awakening something that could end all realities," Zepez said calmly. "Or retreat and allow the Axiom Collective to weaponize it."
The chamber lights flickered.
"Congratulations on making it this far, Ren Takatou," Zepez continued. "Now choose."
Its presence intensified, crushing and immense.
"Because either way… the consequences will be catastrophic."
Operation Babel Tower had reached its critical moment.
And the fate of everything now depended on Ren's decision.
