Chapter 19 - Spatial Refraction

Twenty minutes later, silence once again enveloped that horn hill.

Tenka, who had been squatting on the ground earlier, stood up a bit unsteadily. She tried to hold something in her mouth—a thick white liquid that tasted bitter—then rushed to grab a bottle of mineral water from inside the jeep. After rinsing several times and spitting it to the side, she wiped her lips with the back of her hand, her breathing still slightly irregular.

Meanwhile, Naoki had finished tidying his appearance and tightening his belt. Recalling the sensation of the girl's tongue which now felt far more skilled, he couldn't hold back an admiring breath.

"You learn very quickly, Tenka. Last night, the movements still felt stiff and often hit teeth. But just now... you did it amazingly."

Hearing her blowjob skills praised directly, a thin red flush appeared on Tenka's cheeks accompanied by a proud smile.

"Glad to hear Naoki-kun likes it. That means my effort learning from tutorial videos I watched secretly wasn't in vain."

"You went that far for me?" Naoki was touched, then threw out sweet words. "I'm truly a lucky man to have won your heart, Tenka."

Reaching out, he took a strand of his own pubic hair that had accidentally stuck near Tenka's lips.

"You missed this one."

Tenka was slightly embarrassed, but quickly returned to serious mode.

"Naoki-kun, next time... please bring condoms yourself, okay? I can't keep consuming emergency contraceptive pills like this."

Tenka understood very well that anything excessive wasn't good.

Taking contraceptive pills too frequently or not according to directions could endanger health because these pills contained synthetic estrogen and/or progesterone hormones that disrupted the body's natural hormonal balance. Side effects could include nausea, dizziness, headaches, breast pain, drastic mood changes, to bleeding outside the menstrual cycle.

"Understood." Naoki agreed easily. Although the sensation of sex without barriers felt far more pleasurable, he shouldn't be selfish toward his partner. "I'll always carry a supply of Okamoto in my bag or pocket."

Then, his expression changed to be more enthusiastic. "By the way, Tenka, I want to show you something interesting."

One of Tenka's delicate eyebrows rose, her green eyes showing interest. "Hum~ please show me, Naoki-kun. I'm curious."

"Alright. Don't be surprised later."

Naoki took a deep breath and activated his Peach Blessing, «Pandemonium».

Instantly, the mysterious black-gold cross pattern appeared in his pupils. Behind his back, the Qliphoth Tree diagram manifested briefly; the Thaumiel part storing the copy of «Ame-no-Mitori» glowed brightly before the diagram disappeared, leaving the cross pattern that remained dwelling in his eyes.

*BUZZ!*

The air around Naoki fluctuated like ripples in a calm pond. Gradually, his figure faded until completely disappearing from view.

"Naoki-kun? This is...?" Tenka was shocked, her eyes sweeping the area in front of her.

Through her spatial awareness, she could sense that Naoki was still standing in the same place, right in front of her. But her eyes saw nothing, even when she sensed Naoki moving, walking around her, then suddenly embracing her from behind. She still couldn't see him.

"Surprised?" Naoki's voice was heard right in her ear, as if coming from the air. "This is an application I developed from your «Ame-no-Mitori», Tenka."

"Would Naoki-kun explain how?" Tenka asked curiously and admiringly.

"Sure. To achieve this invisible effect, I create a circular space curvature around my body. Imagine a rock in the middle of a river current; water doesn't hit that rock, but flows around it and merges again on the other side."

"The result is that light coming toward me is bent following that space curvature. People looking toward me are actually seeing what's behind me. I become transparent because there are no light photons reflecting from my body to other people's eyes."

Because Tenka was his partner and also the source of «Ame-no-Mitori», Naoki wanted her to also master this technique. That's why he explained the mechanism in detail.

"I see." Tenka nodded slowly. "You're amazing, Naoki-kun. In just a short time, you've already succeeded in developing «Ame-no-Mitori» in a direction I haven't even thought of. Your progress surpasses mine."

"That's also thanks to you, Tenka. The accumulation of your proficiency, experience, and physical memory in using this Peach Blessing plays a big role. Without that foundation, I would need a long time just to get used to it, let alone increase proficiency to this level."

"Oh right, I named this technique Spatial Refraction."

Then, Naoki canceled the effect. Spatial Refraction receded, and his figure embracing Tenka from behind slowly became visible again, like emerging from thin mist.

"Does Spatial Refraction have weaknesses?" Tenka immediately went to the important point that Naoki also wanted to discuss.

"Yes." Naoki admitted. "First, if I move too fast while... if I move too fast, the light refraction will become unstable, creating ripples like hot asphalt at noon. Very observant enemies might notice that distortion."

"Besides, because I bend all light so it doesn't hit my body, theoretically no light enters my eyes. That means, when I'm truly invisible, I myself become temporarily blind."

Actually, in Naoki's mind, there was a far more sophisticated idea for invisible application through «Ame-no-Mitori».

That idea was to fold space so his body was no longer in the same dimensional layer, but in the gap between space layers, a few millimeters deep. Visually, he would still appear in the same position, but physically, he would be in a different layer.

The effect would be far more extraordinary than Spatial Refraction. Light, sound, even matter would pass through the coordinates where he stood without touching him at all. Naoki would become like a ghost that was invisible, inaudible, and untouchable.

Ordinary sensory methods would fail completely because Naoki's body heat would be trapped inside isolated space. No infrared radiation would exit from his spatial dome, so on thermal cameras, he would be completely empty.

Sound waves required an air medium. Because Naoki isolated the space around him, sound vibrations from his movements would never propagate out to normal air. He would move in total silence.

Finally, scent particles (chemical molecules) from Naoki's body would be held inside his space fold. Tracking dogs or chemical sensors wouldn't be able to detect his presence.

In short, this Dimensional Shift mechanism was many times more powerful than Light Refraction.

Unfortunately, so far, Naoki had failed to master it. Perhaps the time was too short, or perhaps it required a deeper understanding of space that he didn't yet possess. For now, he had to be satisfied with the lower version, Spatial Refraction.

He decided not to discuss the still raw and speculative Dimensional Shift idea with Tenka for now. It was still in the trial and personal experiment stage. Telling her now would only make her worried or give hope that might not be realized.
