The rain had returned, not violently this time.
Lucian stood at the floor-to-ceiling window, his back to the room. He hadn't moved for ten minutes. His reflection a dark, silhouette against the streaking water, his hands clasped tightly behind his back.
Adrian was seated at the massive obsidian desk, the recovered file open on the central terminal. The blue light of the screen washed over his face, making his skin look like pale marble. He didn't look up as he began to read aloud.
"Project: Primary Resonance Stabilization," Adrian read, his voice cutting through the silence.
"Subjects: Darian Black / Paul La Gres.
Objective: Viable Successor Integration."
Lucian didn't turn around. His shoulders didn't even tense.
"Close it," Lucian said, his voice flat.
Adrian didn't move. His fingers hovered over the glass interface, he'd transferred the hard copy to. "You brought me here to find the truth, Lucian. You don't get to decide when the truth becomes too inconvenient."
