Adrian's eyes slowly fluttered open, to the silence of the house.

He lay there for a moment, staring at the intricate molding of the ceiling. This morning, the hum of the bond felt different—less like a predatory shadow and more like a low-frequency anchor.

He rose and walked through the suite, his bare feet silent on the heated marble. He didn't head for the kitchen like he always did for his favorite coffee. Instead, he found his way to the indoor lap pool located in the glass-enclosed wing of the upper floors.

The water was kept at a precise, chill temperature—an intentional choice by the estate's architects to provide a sensory reset. Adrian didn't hesitate. He dived in, the cold waking up his system into clarity. He swam laps with his body cutting the water with the grace of something that had spent years learning to move without making a sound.
