Kaiba's phone rang. He frowned slightly at the unfamiliar number, then answered.
"Who is this?"
"President Kaiba, long time no see!"
"Alister?" Kaiba said, somewhat surprised.
"It's me."
"Why are you calling me?" Kaiba asked.
"We accepted your girlfriend Aoi Kisaragi's request and investigated that Zigfried Lloyd. Sure enough, that guy has a problem!"
At that moment, Alister was in a corner, typing away at a computer. The screen was filled with information about Zigfried Lloyd, while Valon stood beside him, keeping watch.
"Do you know who he really is?" Kaiba asked.
"His real name is Zigfried von Schroeder. Looks like he's a member of the Schroeder family, the competitors of your KaibaCorp," Alister said.
"So it was him!"
In Kaiba's mind surfaced a memory from childhood, when he had once accompanied Gozaburo Kaiba to a banquet. At the time, Gozaburo had been speaking with the head of the Schroeder family, while Kaiba had noticed the little boy standing beside that man.
"Do you have any other information?" Kaiba asked.
"This Zigfried is extremely skilled with computers. He's a computer genius. The previous incident was probably his doing. Also, he has a—"
Before Alister could finish, the call was cut off.
"Hey, Alister! Answer me!" Kaiba shouted repeatedly.
"Did Alister run into trouble?" Kisaragi asked.
"Probably. Since the enemy is a computer genius, he likely noticed that Alister and the others were investigating him," Kaiba said.
"Then let's observe the situation for now. Since you know who's behind this, you have a direction for the investigation," Kisaragi said.
Kaiba nodded and immediately called Isono.
"Isono, investigate everything on Zigfried Lloyd at once!"
"Yes, sir!"
"You damn rat. Now I've caught you!"
On the other side, Alister stared at his blacked-out computer and his now-useless phone.
"Damn it. Looks like we were noticed," Alister said.
"Then what do we do?" Valon asked, dragging over a black-clad bodyguard he had knocked down and tossing him to the ground.
"It's fine. The most important information has already been passed to Kaiba. I don't think they need our help for the rest of the investigation. Speaking of which, is that guy you're dragging one of Zigfried Lloyd's men?" Alister asked.
"Yeah. I found the Schroeder family crest on these people. They had numbers, but I'm no pushover. Back when I was in prison, I used to take on groups of people by myself all the time," Valon said.
"What a brute," Alister said.
"What did you say?!" Valon clenched his fist.
"That's enough, you two."
Raphael appeared from behind them, holding another black-clad bodyguard he had just defeated.
"The matter is done. Let's stay here at Kaiba Land and wait for the KC Grand Prix to end."
Alister and Valon nodded together.
"Damn it. The men I sent out have all vanished without a trace!" Zigfried said resentfully. "Who exactly is investigating me?"
"Lord Zigfried, what will you do next?" Zigfried's butler asked.
"We'll lie low for now. The main course can wait until the finals. When the time comes, I'll give Kaiba a surprise!"
Zigfried held a card in his hand as he spoke.
Several days later, the KC Grand Prix finals opened.
Kisaragi sat together with Yugi's group.
"Joey, you actually lost to Zigfried!" Kisaragi said.
"I couldn't help it! His Valkyries were too troublesome. My opening hand bricked, and I summoned my ace monster too late, so I couldn't show my full strength at all," Joey said.
"But Joey did his best. Zigfried really is strong," Yugi said.
"After many fierce battles, two of the strongest duelists have now emerged here!"
"Allow me to introduce them: the winner of Group A, Zigfried Lloyd, and the winner of Group B, Leon Wilson."
"The finals of the first KC Grand Prix tournament to determine the strongest duelist will now begin!"
The moment Isono finished speaking, the ceiling of the Blue-Eyes Dome opened, and a helicopter flew overhead. Kaiba stood on the helicopter's rope ladder.
"It's Kaiba!" Joey said.
"Big brother?"
The helicopter slowly descended. Once it reached a suitable height, Kaiba jumped straight down from it.
"You finally came," Zigfried Lloyd thought.
"This ends here. As the organizer of this tournament, I hereby declare this match terminated!" Kaiba announced loudly.
Kaiba's declaration caused an uproar throughout the arena.
"What the heck is Kaiba saying?" Joey said.
"Terminated? Why?" Yugi said.
"Leon Wilson will win by default and become the first champion of the KC Grand Prix!" Kaiba continued.
"Huh? Me?" Leon said.
"What exactly is going on, Mokuba?" Tristan asked.
"I don't know either!"
"Keep watching. You'll know the reason soon," Kisaragi said.
"Could you explain the situation, Mr. Kaiba?" Zigfried Lloyd said.
"There's no need for further explanation. You know exactly what you did, Zigfried Lloyd—or rather, Zigfried von Schroeder!" Kaiba said.
"Schroeder? Grandpa, what is Schroeder?" Yugi asked.
"The Schroeder Company is ranked first in Europe's gaming industry, and even worldwide, it is one of the top companies," Solomon Muto said.
"So they're KaibaCorp's rival, then," Téa said.
"The heir of the Schroeder family entered a tournament hosted by KaibaCorp under a false name, then caused trouble from within. I took the time to investigate all of it. But Zigfried, regardless of everything else, your background and your use of a false name are undeniable facts. Those alone are enough to disqualify you!"
After Kaiba finished speaking, he glanced back at Leon Wilson.
In truth, Kaiba had long since learned that Leon and Zigfried were brothers. However, Kisaragi had proposed that she defeat Leon, while Kaiba would deal with Zigfried.
After Kaiba looked at him, Leon felt as if Kaiba already knew his identity. For an instant, his expression turned ugly.
"Heh heh heh… Ha ha ha!"
Zigfried laughed.
"I never imagined the commander-in-chief of KaibaCorp would be so petty. Are you afraid that I, the next president of Schroeder Company, will become champion of the KC Grand Prix? Mr. Kaiba, this conversation is being broadcast to the entire world, is it not? Duelists all over the world will think this: Seto Kaiba was so afraid of me, Zigfried, that he drove me out of the tournament over some trivial matter."
"Hmph. I think you've misunderstood something. Who said I was driving you out?"
Kaiba's declaration immediately drew cheers from the entire arena. Everyone was looking forward to Seto Kaiba's duel.
"Kaiba versus Zigfried?" Yugi said.
"What an unexpected development," Téa said.
Beside them, Kisaragi only smiled without saying anything.
"You're going to be my opponent?" Zigfried said.
"Isn't that exactly what you wanted, Zigfried?" Kaiba replied.
