​"I am aware of the risks, Elder," I snapped, the words tasting like copper in my mouth. I wanted to move Selene away from Ilya—away from the way she cradled him—but my feet felt heavy, anchored by Erwin's piercing stare. "I know they need an anchor."

​"Knowledge and mastery are two different beasts, Mikhail," Erwin countered. He didn't flinch at my tone. Instead, he smoothed his beard, his voice regaining that terrifyingly calm resonance. "A Seer does not just need an anchor to stay grounded; they require a master to direct the flow of their visions. Without a hand to steer the ship, the tide will consume them. They become a gateway for things that should remain in the dark."

​He leaned on his staff, his eyes narrowing as if he could see the "Thief" label still burning in my mind. "But then... everyone needs direction, don't they? Even those who think they are the ones leading the way."
