Anderson urged him to move to a corner. Apparently, whatever he wanted to talk about was private, and Van, although hesitant at first, just followed through. After all, he thought, it was not like she was here already.
"What?" he asked Anderson the moment they stepped into a corner.
The man was quite shocked by how Van was responding. He had known Van since before he became an intern and had always known him to be warm and thoughtful, but now it seemed a lot different, like something had upset him.
It scared him a bit, but he went on to state his request anyway, while keeping to his time.
"I have worked for your father for twenty years," he began. "And not that I am complaining about myself, sir, please hear me out, but I have been pleading with him to let me go and do something else with my life."
Now, Van grew curious. His father did many strange things, but he did not know that Luther stopped staff from quitting too.
