Chapter 44 - 44. The Traitor

Even though Van learned eventually that his mother was going to lose her life with or without his interference, he still blamed himself. His father had also made it a point to constantly remind him of the incident, making him seem like the murderer. Yet he, Luther, had known about his wife's terminal illness long before the incident and rather than find a cure, he chose to use her as a test subject since she was going to die anyway.

 

Van did not move for a long time until the memories faded. His hands were pressed against the wall, his head lowered, taking deep breaths at intervals. The past always found a way of waiting for moments like this to remind him of his flaws, his simple problem of not stopping to think before acting.

 

"Sir!" His earpiece buzzed. It was a good thing it was waterproof. At first, Van did not answer. He believed that whatever it was could wait until he cleared his head of everything.
