Chapter 14 - CHAPTER 14

A young warrior's blood does not cool overnight.

If anything, Kuina burned brighter.

Her training became fiercer, her discipline sharper, her focus frighteningly intense. The wooden floors of the dojo echoed endlessly beneath her footsteps, long before sunrise and long after dusk. Sweat soaked her gi daily, yet her movements only grew more refined more precise more relentless.

When Kuina sparred with the other students, the change was unmistakable.

Her blade no longer merely struck.

It cut through hesitation.

It shattered rhythm.

It imposed will.

Even the senior disciples found themselves pushed back, their defenses collapsing under the pressure of her strikes.

Nearby, murmurs spread.

"Did you see that?"

"She's… faster."

"No… not just faster. Sharper."

Shimotsuki Kōshirō watched silently, arms folded within his sleeves, glasses reflecting the glint of clashing steel.

"…Impressive."

Though his voice was calm, the faint shift in his tone did not escape the students.

High above the training floor, seated with elegant composure, Saint Roselith Seraphina observed the scene.

The uninvited guest of the Isshin Dojo.

Her porcelain fingers cradled a teacup. Steam curled upward in delicate spirals as she took a measured sip.

The bitterness.

The fragrance.

The quiet.

Such a simple life…

Such fragile peace.

For a fleeting moment, Seraphina allowed herself to savor it.

But only for a moment.

Because reality was never so kind.

Across from her, Kōshirō finally turned, adjusting his glasses.

"…Saint Seraphina."

His politeness was immaculate.

His patience, thinning.

"Appearing unannounced is hardly proper etiquette."

Seraphina smiled faintly.

"Master Kōshirō, must you sound so distant?"

"Is the Isshin Dojo truly inclined to turn away a guest who has traveled so far?"

Her tone was smooth, almost playful, yet carried the unmistakable confidence of one born above ordinary hierarchy.

Kōshirō exhaled softly.

A Marine officer was one matter.

A Celestial Dragon was another entirely.

"…What is the purpose of your return?"

Seraphina's silver lashes lowered slightly.

"Let us cross swords once more."

"This time, I wish to fight seriously."

Kōshirō's response came without hesitation.

"…No."

Seraphina blinked.

"No?"

"I refuse."

There was no hostility in his voice.

Only certainty.

"Why?"

Kōshirō's gaze remained steady.

"Because technique means nothing if the blade cannot wound."

Silence fell between them.

During their previous duel, Kōshirō's strikes had been flawless. His sword had reached Seraphina's vital points more times than he cared to count.

Yet she had stood.

Unbroken.

Unharmed.

Unmoved.

Not through trickery.

Not through deception.

But through something far more troubling.

Control.

Defensive mastery.

Haki beyond expectation.

"…Then instruct me," Seraphina said at last.

Kōshirō paused.

"…Very well."

And so he spoke.

Of posture.

Of balance.

Of restraint.

Of excess.

He dissected her flaws with surgical precision, exposing inefficiencies invisible to ordinary swordsmen. Seraphina listened without interruption, nodding slowly, absorbing every word.

She did not argue.

She did not resist.

Because she understood.

Gold did not fear refinement.

"First," Kōshirō said, "extend your awareness."

Seraphina closed her eyes.

Kenbunshoku Haki blossomed outward.

"Do not chase movement," he continued. "Perceive intent."

Seraphina's presence shifted.

The air itself seemed to sharpen.

Then

A tremor.

A fracture.

A whisper of danger.

Her eyes snapped open.

Not toward herself.

Toward the storage warehouse.

✦ [SYSTEM] ✦

Kenbunshoku Haki Response Detected

Without another word, Seraphina vanished.

Soru.

The wooden platform cracked beneath the explosive force of her step.

Across the yard, inside the dim warehouse, Kuina ascended the aging ladder.

Exhaustion weighed upon her limbs, yet determination drove her upward.

The whetstone.

She needed it.

Each step produced a strained creak. Dust drifted downward in thin, trembling veils. The beams above groaned softly, a warning too subtle for ordinary ears.

But not for Observation Haki.

Kuina reached into the darkness.

Her fingers closed around the whetstone.

She pulled.

Too hard.

CRACK.

The ladder splintered.

Rotten wood collapsed.

Beams tore free.

Kuina's footing vanished.

"Eh?!"

Instinctively, she grasped for support.

Nothing.

The world inverted.

Gravity claimed her.

Then

Impact never came.

Seraphina burst through the entrance like a silver tempest, arms sweeping upward in a blur. The recoil of Soru screamed through her legs, muscles straining violently under the sudden deceleration.

But she did not falter.

Kuina was caught.

Secure.

Weightless.

Seraphina landed smoothly, cradling the stunned girl.

Behind them

The warehouse ceiling collapsed.

Kōshirō's blade flashed.

A single arc.

Wood split cleanly as falling debris was severed mid-descent.

Dust exploded outward.

Silence followed.

"…Are you hurt?" Seraphina asked softly.

Kuina did not answer.

Her face remained buried against Seraphina's chest, small hands gripping tightly.

For a moment, she had felt only

The scent of gardenias.

Warmth.

Safety.

Slowly, Kuina lifted her head.

Their eyes met.

Seraphina could not see.

But she could feel it.

Fear.

Relief.

And

"…Why are you blushing?" Seraphina murmured, faintly amused.

Nearby, Kōshirō approached rapidly.

"Kuina!"

Concern shattered his usual composure.

"Are you injured?"

Kuina stared.

Not at his words.

But at his face.

Her father's eyes…

Wide open.

Clear.

Strong.

Not small at all.

"…Pfft!"

Laughter burst from her lips.

Kōshirō froze.

Seeing her unharmed, his tension dissolved into quiet relief.

Seraphina gently shifted her hold.

Just as she prepared to set Kuina down

Small arms tightened.

"…Saint Seraphina…"

Kuina leaned closer, voice barely a whisper.

"…Will you become my master?"

The question struck harder than any blade.

Seraphina blinked.

Of all outcomes…

This was not one she had foreseen.

Yet as she glanced toward Kōshirō, toward the man who had offered his knowledge without reservation

the answer became inevitable.

A request so earnest.

From a child so resolute.

"…Very well," Seraphina said quietly.

And Kuina's world changed once more.
