Chapter 36 - 36: The Rift

Thump.

Geto Suguru closed the door behind him.

For a reason he did not want to examine too closely, he did not want the two sisters to witness what was about to happen.

He exhaled slowly, white mist curling from his lips in the cold night air.

"Mr. Geto, what is it you wanted to discuss?"

The village chief's voice trembled.

Geto brushed a strand of hair from his forehead and looked at the gathered villagers, his eyes devoid of warmth.

"It is nothing," he said calmly. "You are simply going to die."

Before the villagers could process his words, the space behind him distorted and split open. From the crack, grotesque cursed spirits crawled out one after another, their forms twisted and monstrous.

"A monster!"

"Help!"

"Run!"

Panic erupted. The villagers scattered in terror, scrambling over each other in a desperate attempt to escape.

Geto remained where he stood, his gaze shifting toward a patch of darkness nearby.

"Shion, stop hiding."

From the shadows, Gojo Shion stepped forward, scratching the back of his head with a faint smile.

"You noticed."

Geto's lips curved slightly. "We are best friends. I know your cursed energy well."

There was a brief pause.

"So, are you going to stop me?"

Shion shrugged lightly. "Of course."

Geto sighed and pressed a hand to his forehead, as if nursing a headache. When he looked up again, his expression was more serious than ever.

"Shion, I have always wanted to know how wide the gap between us truly is."

"Let us fight."

Shion smiled, relaxed and confident. "Do not cry when you lose."

He knew that the idea of killing all non sorcerers to create a world free of cursed spirits was neither realistic nor justifiable. Geto understood that too. What stood before him now was not ideology, but anger seeking release.

If that was the case, then fists would be enough to wake him up.

"Cursed Technique Reversal: Red."

A violent repulsive force erupted outward.

The swarm of cursed spirits rushing toward Shion was crushed instantly, torn apart by overwhelming pressure. The shockwave flattened nearby buildings and sent debris flying into the night.

Geto's eyes sharpened.

"Cursed Spirit Manipulation: Maximum."

Dozens of rainbow dragons spiraled into existence, their massive bodies twisting through the air before fusing together into a single colossal dragon.

"A new trick?"

Shion raised a brow, then casually flicked his wrist, releasing another blast of Red.

The enormous dragon roared, its tail lashing out like a whip. It collided head on with the repulsive force.

A thunderous explosion rang out.

For a brief instant, Shion was sent flying, crashing into a distant mountain. A circular void was carved through the rock, as if the landscape itself had been punched through.

The rainbow dragon's tail was left mangled and shredded.

Geto waved his hand, and several more dragons burrowed into the massive body, merging seamlessly. The damaged tail regenerated almost instantly.

"Interesting," Shion murmured, brushing dust from his shoulder as he reappeared. "Let us try this."

He brought his fingers together.

"Nine Ropes."

"Polarized Light."

"Crow and Declaration."

"Between Front and Back."

Blue and red converged, compressing into a sphere of violent purple energy.

"Hollow Technique: Purple."

The imaginary mass tore through space itself, carrying both the crushing force of attraction and the annihilating force of repulsion.

Even Geto felt a chill at its approach.

"As expected of you, Shion. The same technique is far more refined in your hands than Satoru's."

At that very moment, inside Tokyo Jujutsu High, Gojo Satoru sneezed loudly while sitting in a restroom stall, frowning in confusion.

Back in Hakone, Geto poured everything into reinforcement.

Countless rainbow dragons rushed forward, merging continuously with the colossal dragon. Though its size did not increase further, its density and cursed energy rose sharply.

With a deafening roar, the dragon opened its jaws and swallowed Purple whole.

For a heartbeat, silence.

Then its body began to convulse violently, swelling as if poisoned from within.

With a catastrophic explosion, the dragon burst apart. Purple blood rained down from the sky.

Shion clicked his tongue softly. "You managed to stall it. Not bad, Suguru. But it is not enough."

A blur of motion.

Geto closed the distance instantly, swinging Yūun in a heavy arc. The impact slammed into Shion's arm with a resounding crack.

Shion felt a faint sting and grinned. "You broke through Limitless. Domain Amplification, just like I taught you?"

He glanced at the three section staff in Geto's hands. "And Yūun. That cost you a lot of yen."

Geto shot him a look. "I paid it off already."

"I even gave you a discount," Shion replied lightly as he stepped back, evading the next strike.

"You want to compete in close combat with me? I will return the favor with another discount, one broken bone."

The two collided again.

Their movements blurred into afterimages, sparks bursting with every exchange. The night air rang with sharp, rhythmic impacts.

"Faster, Suguru. Is that all?"

Geto gritted his teeth and pressed harder.

In pure physical combat, even he and Satoru combined would struggle to match Shion.

"Do not look down on me!"

With a furious shout, Geto forced his body beyond its limits, accelerating further.

Shion frowned slightly. "You are not going to surpass your limits just by yelling. That is not how this works."

His fist twisted at the perfect instant.

Black Flash.

Space warped as cursed energy struck within a fraction of a second.

Geto staggered, then retaliated with his own Black Flash.

Soon, the technique that most sorcerers struggled their entire lives to achieve was being traded between them like ordinary blows.

Time lost meaning.

Sweat drenched Geto's forehead. His breathing grew uneven, his vision beginning to blur.

Shion, by contrast, remained composed. His rhythm never faltered.

"In physical combat, I still cannot surpass you," Geto admitted through clenched teeth.

He leapt back, putting distance between them. Yūun vanished, replaced by intricate hand signs.

Shion tilted his head. "A domain? You know you have no chance in a clash."

Geto laughed, breath ragged. "You will never know unless you try."

"Domain Expansion: Myriad Phenomena."

Shion's expression finally turned serious. He formed his own seals.

"Domain Expansion: Throne of Stillborn Stars."

The two barriers erupted outward, colliding violently.

As expected, Throne of Stillborn Stars immediately overwhelmed Myriad Phenomena. Its sure hit effect devoured everything within its range.

"Damn it. Hold on."

Geto forced every ounce of cursed energy into maintaining his domain. He had nothing left to summon even a single spirit.

Shion watched him quietly.

"Suguru, that is enough."

Light from Throne of Stillborn Stars intensified, brilliant and merciless.

Geto watched as his domain shattered piece by piece, his efforts meaningless against the overwhelming force.

Finally, the white radiance engulfed him completely.

His vision faded.

"So I still lost…"
