"What?" Lenette asked, even though she had a feeling she knew where this was going. She should have walked away the moment he looked at her like she was the most entertaining play he had ever seen.
"Take the gun and shoot." He said it like it was an offer rather than an order.
Her every instinct was telling her to run. Lenette was not prepared for this. Nor she did expect him to call her bluff out with such an extreme method. She was considering leaving, walking away and pretend that this whole interaction was a nightmare.
Lenette needed her freedom. But she also, in that moment, faced with a pistol and an active threat of death, she realised how pointless her freedom would be to her if brought on by her losing her life. The whole point was to have enough freedom to find the person who took away everything from her. And Lenette knew that there was no doing that beyond the grave.
