Chapter 35 The Abandoned Charmander
After capturing Bulbasaur, the group continued their journey towards Vermilion City, but after following the correct route for a while, Ash and his friends, as expected, got lost again.
Ash used Aura to survey the surroundings and instructed, "There are Spearow everywhere, so everyone be careful."
"It's all Brock's fault! How can you always choose the wrong direction at every fork in the road?" Misty complained.
Brock's face was full of embarrassment; he had squinting eyes, so it was normal for him to sometimes not see the map clearly. He was truly wronged!
"Misty, don't worry. Different paths offer different scenery and opportunities. Look, the day before yesterday we got lost and met Bulbasaur. This time, who knows, we might have other gains," Ash comforted her.
Indeed, in the original story, idiot often got lost and always stumbled upon good things that others might never encounter in their lifetime.
If Ash remembered correctly, his Charizard was not far from him.
"I hope so, but we haven't encountered a town for ten days, and we haven't even seen a Pokémon Center. All I want now is to sleep in a soft bed; I don't want to sleep outdoors anymore," Misty sighed.
"Found it! If we follow this path, we can reach the Pokémon Center on Route 24 today," Brock said, looking at the map.
"Is this route guaranteed to be correct this time?" Misty asked suspiciously.
She didn't want to take any more detours.
"I'm sure this time. If I'm wrong again, I'll treat you to a big meal when we reach Vermilion City," Brock made a bold promise.
Upon hearing this, Misty immediately became excited. "That's great! Finally, a bed to sleep in! Ash, let's go quickly!"
The group had barely taken a few steps when they saw an orange-tailed lizard with a flame on its tail resting on a large boulder.
"Wow, it's a Charmander!" Misty was captivated by the Charmander's cute appearance the moment she saw it.
This Charmander wasn't afraid of Ash and the others; it just lay quietly on the boulder, as if waiting for something.
"This Charmander seems to lack vitality, and it has quite a few injuries. It's better to capture it quickly and take it to the Pokémon Center for treatment," Brock said.
"Charmander are very rare in the wild, even rarer than Bulbasaur and Squirtle. So, this Charmander must have been abandoned," Ash analyzed.
"How can there be such an irresponsible Trainer? That's truly despicable!"
"It's so pitiful that Charmander was left here. I really don't know how such a Trainer qualified to receive a First Generation Starters."
Ash's words angered both Misty and Brock.
First Generation Starters are highly coveted starter Pokémon for many Trainers, but very few are actually qualified to receive them. For someone to receive a First Generation Starters and then maliciously abandon it, this is no longer just a matter of an individual Trainer's character; the person who distributed this Charmander probably isn't much better.
Ash, who knew the plot, understood that the Charmander's Trainer was actually at the Pokémon Center ahead. For the sake of Charmander's life, he couldn't care less about how much the truth would hurt Charmander; he could only first gain its trust and get it to follow him.
While releasing Viridian Power to alleviate Charmander's injuries, he said, "Charmander, this place is full of Spearow, it's too dangerous, and it looks like it's about to rain. The person you're waiting for, I might know where he'll appear. Why don't you come with us to the Pokémon Center up ahead first, and after the rain stops, I'll take you to find your Trainer."
Upon hearing this, Charmander looked up at the sky, then at Ash, whose hands were glowing green, and resolutely shook its head, indicating it wouldn't go.
"Lian ~ Lian!" (Ash is right, don't be ungrateful!)
Seeing Charmander unappreciative, Kirlia became displeased.
"Pika, Pika Pika!"
Pikachu also activated its social terrorist trait, climbing onto the boulder to begin the friend-making (brainwashing) process.
"Nero, Nero!"
After a verbal barrage from Pikachu and Kirlia, Charmander chose to trust Ash, who possessed special abilities.
And so, Charmander, with its short legs, followed behind Ash and the others, walking towards the nearby Pokémon Center.
As soon as the group entered, they heard a chorus of flattering voices.
They followed the sound and saw a young man with blue hair and sunglasses clipped to his head. Under the flattery of others, his nose was practically pointing to the sky, and a pile of Poké Balls lay on the table in front of him.
"But Damian, you don't seem to have a Charmander, do you?" a young man asked.
The young man named Damian replied, "Of course I do, but my Charmander was too weak. It couldn't even beat a Poliwag; it was pretty bad. I threw it into the mountains, but it was so stupid; I threw it several times, and it still followed me back. Finally, I left it on a rock and told it to wait there obediently for me to return..."
These heartless words reached Charmander's ears, every single one. In that instant, hope turned into despair. Charmander, who had just wanted to run up and embrace its Trainer, stopped in its tracks.
"Lian!"
Kirlia, standing beside Charmander, felt Charmander's emotions and, without Ash's permission, directly used Telekinesis to lift those young men into the air.
"Kirlia, excellent work! These guys deserve a lesson!" Misty exclaimed.
"Pikapi!" Pikachu also gave a thumbs-up.
"What's going on?!"
"Help! Murder!"
"Who is it? Show yourself if you dare!"
"Daring to fight in a Pokémon Center, this is truly..."
Those young men screamed in panic.
"What happened?"
Nurse Nurse Joy from the Pokémon Center rushed over. She saw the young men suspended in mid-air and anxiously looked around for which Pokémon was controlling them.
Ash walked over. "Nurse Nurse Joy, hello. Could you please contact Officer Jenny? We've caught an unscrupulous Trainer who casually abandoned a Pokémon."
"Huh, who exactly are you?! What do you mean 'unscrupulous Trainer'? What does it have to do with you if I release my own Pokémon? I advise you to let me down obediently and apologize, otherwise, when Officer Jenny comes, I'll make sure she arrests you," the young man named Damian shouted.
"Pikachu, teach him a lesson and make him quiet," Ash said coldly.
Originally, he didn't want to go to extremes with this matter, as it was because this guy abandoned Charmander that he gained a Champion-level Charizard. But this guy had a foul mouth and didn't consider his own lowly status, daring to shout. If Ash didn't send him in for a few years, he wouldn't be worthy of his Professor title.
Upon receiving the command, Pikachu eagerly unleashed a bolt of lightning.
Ash took out a red booklet and a Pokedex and handed them to Nurse Joy: "Nurse Nurse Joy, this is my identification. I appreciate your help."
That red booklet was his Professor's certificate issued by the Alliance. This was the first time he had actively shown this certificate to someone.
Every Nurse Nurse Joy is recognized by the Alliance, and they are intimately familiar with all types of certificates issued by the Alliance, able to discern their authenticity at a glance. So, Nurse Nurse Joy only glanced at the red booklet before respectfully saying, "Alright, Professor Ash, I will contact Jenny right away."
