Chapter 64: Battle
On the grassland outside the Fuchsia Gym.
Ash and Gym Leader Koga stood on opposite sides, Koga calmly said to Ash, "For this battle, we'll use a two Pokemon match. The challenger can switch Pokemon midway. What do you think?"
"No problem," Ash nodded in response.
"Very well, come out, Venonat!"
Koga sent out his Pokémon first.

"Come out, Bulbasaur!"
Ash sent out his Bulbasaur, which didn't have a type advantage.

A transparent barrier rose around Bulbasaur, blocking all of Muk's attacks.
"Very good, Bulbasaur, continue with Leech Seed!"
"Muk, Minimize and dodge it!"
Muk curled into a ball, and its speed increased significantly. Clearly, this Muk had undergone special training. It was very fast and had strong reactions. The Leech Seed shot by Bulbasaur barely missed it.
"Seed?"
Bulbasaur panicked slightly when its move missed.
"Bulbasaur, don't panic! Use Vine Whip to tie it up, then Giga Drain!" Ash comforted it.

Despite his momentary daze, Koga reacted quickly, immediately taking the initiative: "Muk, Sludge Bomb!"
"Squirtle, use Hydro Pump while in Rapid Spin!"
Squirtle launched into a Rapid Spin, and five intense streams of water shot out from the five openings on its shell, turning it into a spinning top spouting water outwards. The fierce water streams not only dispersed Muk's attack but also splashed Muk in the face, causing significant damage.
"Very good, Squirtle, use Aqua Tail!" Ash pressed on, seizing the advantage.
Squirtle coated its tail in water, then powerfully whipped it towards Muk.
"Muk, seize the opportunity and grab its tail!"
Koga immediately commanded.
"Nieduo~"
Muk's eyes were fixed on Squirtle. Just as the tail was about to strike, it used its flexible body to absorb most of the force and managed to grab Squirtle's tail.
"Good, Muk, now use Poison Gas!"
"Squirtle!"
Squirtle increased the water flow from its tail, attempting to wash Muk's hand away.
"Mr. Koga is really tenacious." Ash knew the battle wouldn't end that easily. "Squirtle, maximum power Water Gun, aim for Muk's mouth!"
"Squirtle!"
Squirtle shot out a stream of water comparable to a Hydro Pump. Muk was in the middle of spewing gas, so at close range, Squirtle didn't even need to aim.
After a dozen seconds, Muk's body grew larger, and it collapsed to the ground, lifeless, losing its ability to battle.
"Muk has lost its ability to battle. Both of the Gym Leader's Pokemon have lost their ability to battle, so the winner is Ash from Pallet Town."
"Ash, this pink gym badge is yours. I look forward to your performance at the Indigo Plateau Conference."
Koga took out a scroll, retrieved the Fuchsia Gym badge from within, and solemnly handed it to Ash.
